Location: Roscoe IL | Thinking about putting together an early season heavy bass style set up, for sight fishing early season fish, as well as fishing the catch and release bass season, prefer shimano, what would you guys recommmend for a real ? Say 350$ budget, and a 250$ rod budget. |

| Look for a Salmon "Bottom Bounce" rod. Not walleye or catfish - Salmon. I bought a used G-Loomis and it was perfect. Lamiglass also has them. It had nice "musky rod " like rear and foregrip. The tip was very fast but had tons of backbone. Perfect for downsized baits.
You'll have to look at shops or on-line on the west coast.

| I just set up a downsize out fit for early season on WI lakes & rivers which which will be mainly used for small bucktails and small glide baits. 7"' 6" Okuma telescoping with a 70's vintage Abu 6000c. Nice little set up and I'm into it under $250. |

Location: Roscoe IL | ended up with a curado dc150, and a Diawa swimbait rod, less rod than i would have liked, but from all reviews a really nice rod for the outlay, has a nice 17" cork grip as well so it feels like a musky rod in that respect. put some 40lb seagur smoke braid on it, have a few single strand titanium leaders coming as well, so should be good to go for a downsizer set up.

Location: E. Tenn | Last spring, I took a flippin' rod, respooled a Revo Toro with 50# braid, and called it good.. whipped several mid 40s on that setup, and put a couple more in the boat this past fall with no fuss, or extra stress on the fish.
