Just saw the sad news on FB. Made many stops in there when I was still down south fishing Pewaukee. A guide turned good friend, Mike Koepp first introduced me to the shop back in the day.

Big liquidation sale coming up March 13 & 14.

No kidding! I was just thinking I haven’t been there in a few years and might swing over in the next few weeks! Too bad they never got involved with online sales....hard to survive without it!

For those not on FB, I found their updated post. Here's the details:

We have gotten a ton of questions on what is going to happen to the building, if Loie is going to sell or what. And after a few individuals have expressed comments and posts throughout social media about the status of Smokey's Muskie Shop, and rumors about it closing, my apologies for not being read into the full playbook as you think you were. We went with the information given to us by the owner, thinking we were helping her out by continuing to make money for her till the end. It is VERY TRUE that the Muskie Shop part is gone. So is the Muskie shop part of the name. If you would also have known, this entire situation was in the process of being rectified and ALL the correct information was about to be put out there and the original post deleted in hopes of helping John start off in a good position. With that said, I was fortunate enough to talk to John Heimsch this evening, owner of Waters Edge Boat Club, who leases boats and pontoons out of our Marina. John will be leasing the shop and having a general all around bait shop. Although it will no longer be an exclusive Muskie shop, he will have some Muskie tackle on hand. Our conversation was very positive in the direction he is going and what his plans are. He will have live bait and SUCKERS in the fall, parking will be the same, and boat rentals including some bigger fishing boats will be available. His wish is to try and keep John Laimon's Legacy alive, and is looking forward to working with the different groups that have hosted events out of Smokey's from years past. That is all great news. Now, on a personal note, I've known John Heimsch, his family, and the teenagers that worked for him for the past few years. They are really very nice people. They run a great business, and are perfect for this endeavor. We wish them nothing but the best going forward. Give them a chance, and check out what they will have to offer you. Nothing is better than having a bait shop right there on the water.
