I saw in the boats for sale section an add for a new Vexus 22 ft boat with a 400 HP outboard. Now, I am not looking for a new boat and really have not been following the development of these very high horsepower motors on fishing boats but I find that extraordinary. Anybody have an idea on how fast a boat like that would go? Guy I worked with had a cigarette style speed boat he ran on Lake Winnebago. I think that was a little over 500 HP, inboard and you had to wear seatbelts. His could hit 80mph but it was 28 feet long if I remember correctly.

There are pontoons with 400 hp motors on the Minocqua chain. I seen one last summer with twin 300's.

Posts: 536 Location: deephaven mn | size of boat to hp is the equation 20 foot 250 to 300 21 foot 300 to 350 22 foot 400 the 20s and 21s can reach 65 with jack plates, i would think 22 would be similar, i am speaking off deep hull type boats like the vexus is, bass boats are faster

Living in Fond du Lac before I retired, I heard about Mercury prototyping and testing these high horsepower 4 strokes over 10 years ago but just didn't expect to see them on inland fishing boats like the Vexus. Thought they would be hanging off the back of charter boat in the Keys, halibut charters up in Seward, etc. Boats that need big motors get on plane and travel long distances to off shore fishing.

Posts: 1209 | Warrior boats has a new model, it's not on their site yet but a hair over 22' and can handle the 450r, heck basscat boats can have the 450r on a bass boat at exactly 22' will enter the 90's safely. There are true go fast bass boats that can touch 100mph with a 250 and 115 with a 300

Posts: 571 Location: Germantown, WI | In excess of 65 MPH for a fishing boat just seems silly....maybe I’m different! I love cruising at about 38 MPH in my Skeeter 1825 MX on LOTW......fast enough to drive 20-25 miles to one of my favorite spots but slow enough to take in and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way......
