This is wierd but true, I swear. My partner and I were fishing a week or so ago. We were casting baits and had one sucker out behind us and one over the side of the boat between us about 3 feet down. Well, my partner had a mid 40" fish follow in and he started figure eighting. The musky followed his figure eight around a few times and as this was going on I observed our sucker over the side of the boat literally roll over, belly up, and play dead. No kidding. It rolled over and didn't move a muscle. The musky followed the figure eight around a few times and that sucker looked dead as a door-nail. Then when the musky swam away the sucker rolled back over and came back to life. Has anyone else had this happen?? Should I ask for a refund on this defective sucker??[:(]

Lockjaw, that is hilarious. I have never observed anything like that but next time I'm in that situation, I'll be sure to look.

I wonder what Mr. Worrall has to say about this as it relates to fish intelligence.

As fas as a refund goes, you didn't pay much for it in the first place, did you? [;)]

Just the opposite happened to me.

Last weekend I had a sucker with about 4' of line out. It was hanging out near the top of the water. A 30" Musky came straight up from the bottom and missed it. The sucker went nuts trying to get away. Swimming in circles and jumping out of the water trying to flee. It was going nuts. The Musky came back and t-boned the sucker and after a short fight I had it up to the boat and noticed there were no hooks in the Muskys mouth. It let go after I twitched the line a few times. The sucker laid on top of the water with a huge gash half way through it. About 10 seconds later the same Musky came back and hit the sucker again. Within 5 minutes after this happened my partner landed a nice 38"er on his sucker. I don't really have a point to this but it was cool watching all of this happen in such a short period of time.

Jono,

This was not one of those $1 suckers. This one was at least $4. Maybe the more you spend the smarter the sucker, or now that I think about it, just who is the real sucker here?[:((]

One day this fall I was with jlong and Jomusky. We listened to the Packer/Viking game while we fished. I gave our sucker a name which was "Cullpepper". Of course the Packers had an off day, couldnt sack him, and those Wisconsin muskies couldn't eat Cullpepper either. LOL

Suckers are smart. Really smart. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since the sucker''s visuals are primarily up, maybe the thing turned over on it''s back to see the muskie coming...kinda like the rat with the finger at the attacking Eagle thing...then again, maybe not![;)] [;)]
