Posts: 568 Location: Lake St Clair | So I looked all over the inter webs and can’t quite figure out what part broke. More or less the levelwind doesn’t move anymore and the line bunches up on the retrieval. Can someone point me to the part or should I just send it in to be fixed? Posts: 320 | Yep prolly just a pawl. Replace with a ceramic one if possible.

Posts: 1209 | If you need a fix to survive a day or two you can probably rolL up some paper on end to get it to slide back over the worm gear. My dad had done this for Half a season.

Posts: 8781 | Depending on how bad it is you can clean it up, turn it 180 degrees (one side is usually more worn than the other) and get a few more days out of it. I just keep a spare in my tackle bag for all my reels. Worth the $2 investment...

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | It may be the pawl, it could possibly be a nicked worm shaft, but it is most likely the idle gear. Wouldn’t know for sure until you take it apart. Where are you located? I have most parts on hand but would have to check if I have a worm shaft. I am just south of twin cities. Esox Reel Repair

Posts: 320 | If it’s the pawl, for a quick fix remove the pawl & put a small piece of cardboard (not corrugated) in the pawl housing before u put the pawl back in, much like a shim. This will push the worn pawl up higher into the worm gear and the reel may work again. It’s enough of a fix to keep it working until u get a new pawl.
