Posts: 2024 | What is the difference between amber lenses and gray lenses? Or a general question: what are the main differences between different colored lenses? Thanks much!

If you find one, sunrise yellow is very good for sunrise and sunset or overcast. If you can afford it get yourself two different lensed glasses, one for low light and one for bright light. I reccomend going to some of the various websites for manufactures..like Costa Del Mar or Maui Jim. Costa Del Mar and Maui Jim both have the roots of their companies in fisherman, not sure but think both may have been founded by fisherman. Usually with sunglasses the more you spend the better they are. If you check some catalogs like Campmor they sometimes have stuff by Bolle and Nikon at low prices. Also, check places like sunglass hut in the malls for discounts on last years models, I got a pair of Nikons from campmor for $29 and two pairs of costas from sunglass hut for a total of $50 for both.

Posts: 1536 Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | Those are all great answers and very good sunglasses. However, for those of us that wear perscription glasses we do not have all of those options. Besides clip ons or paying through the nose for a set of perscription sunglasses there is not much we can do. I like the "Fit Over" sunglasses that I bought. They may look a little large but they work great and I don't need to buy those expensive perscription sunglasses. Some of you may want to try them. I am trying to put a link for you here but I don't know if it will work or not. If mot just try a web search for Fit Overs. This should get you to a site that you can purchase them from. http://www.hammacher.com/publish/67425.asp?source=inktomi&keyword=6... Found another place to look as well. Posts: 1335 Location: Chicago, Beverly | Bad story about fitovers...My older brother and his wife went up to Wi. musky fishing. She had fitovers and the added weight of them as she was landing a fish caused them to sink rapidly to the bottom of about 30' of water when they slid off her head.. She is basically blind without her prescription... Some place in minocqua was not only able to get her her prescription but also had the fitovers. I guess it wasn't that bad...

| What ever you get make sure the lenses are high quality polished optical glass. Glass lenses have less distortion than polycarbonate lenses giving you a more crisp image. The only draw back is they are a little heavier on your nose, but you get used to it and is not that noticeable. My wife works at an eye wear place and when I was looking for sunglasses she was able to order a bunch in different colors and lens types for me to try. The glass lenses were by far the best. Lens color really didn't make much of a difference to me. Most of the high end polarized sunglasses are made from glass lenses. I know the oceanwaves and costa del mar with the mirrored finish are. I went with Ray Bans in the gray glass lens and love them. Jason Malone | |||

Posts: 120 Location: Chicago, IL | I have to agree with muskyboy. OceanWaves backwater green lens color is far and away the best I have used. www.oceanwaves.com I must also report a above and beyond customer service encounter I had with OceanWaves. I had a pair of glasses where both ear pieces broke off at the frame rendering them totally useless and virtually unrepairable... or so I thought. I sent in the glasses asking them to do their best and that I would be willing to pay for any repairs (new frames, ear pieces, etc.) I also indicated a different frame style that I preferred if the repair required frame replacement. Two weeks later I received new glasses in the frame style that I wanted at no additional cost to me (other than the $6 I sent for return shipping.) You can buy OceanWaves online or you can get them at the Esox Angler store in Hayward. Dan Hardy

Posts: 285 | One pair is not enough! I like the backwater green lens from Ocean Waves too, also have the Blue Mirror Revo, which look cool, and Vuarnet SkiLinx (these may not be available new any more) they have a gradient yellow lens which really helps with reflection from water. Good places to order good quality polarized sunglasses at a discount: www.campmor.com www.sierratradingpost.com Happy Holidays Gang, Papa Joe

Posts: 2024 | If you were gonna go with the Ocean Waves, what model would you get in the backwater green? Thanks!

Posts: 120 Location: Chicago, IL | My favorite model is the Venezuela as it has more of a wrap-around effect than some of the other frames. Other models I like because of their wrap-around effect are 1. Gravity 2. Laguna Beach 3. Santa Cruz 4. Costa Rica 5. Chicago

Posts: 228 Location: Downers Grove, IL | I've had 3 pairs of Maui Jims and love them for fishing and the polarization, but the main reason I keep buying them is their customer service. I sat on a pair a couple years back 3 days prior to a Canada trip. I called Maui Jim and told them my predicament. They asked me to overnight the broken glasses to them; the rep told me to put her name on the box so that she would personally handle overseeing the repair. Long story short - they overnighted the repaired glasses back to me in time for the trip. That's the kind of customer service that earns loyal customers!

| musky one, perscription glasses are more expensive but only by alittle and would definitely be worth the price. my friend bought a pair of perscipts (ray ban) polorized for 199.00, he says they are the best "investment" in fishing he has made! also you can wear them any time, not just on the water just a thought peace | |||

Posts: 20281 Location: oswego, il | I have costa del mar sunglasses and love them. I use the amber lenses for lower light but i would still like an untinted pair of polaroids for very overcast and last light conditions. Best place to buy your sunglasses is ebay. It's flooded with them and you can get great deals on brand new ones.
