i'm looking at getting a new to me 17 ft fishing boat. was wondering about what boaters thought about sylvan boats? are they equal to princecraft , lund , crestliner? in quality, durability, .... thanks for any and all info.

I just picked up an Alumacraft 1875 Competitor. Multiple manufacturers were in the mix as well as some nice used fiberglass rigs. Lund was the first boat disqualified high price point, didn't like the electronics platform, Crestliner was close but didn't like the factory trailer or the electronics platform, settled on Alumacraft, like the layout, double live wells, built in insulated cooler, cooler will keep two bags of ice for over two days, storage was equal to others, double rod box - I use telescoping rods so 7.5 to 8' is plenty. Trailer has up-scaled wiring with underwater lights for night loading and a built in ladder. Good price point. Passed on the used Skeeter tillers and other due to weight. Did not want to upgrade my tow vehicle and many of the Northern WI lakes and rivers I fish have poor launches. Unfortunately the older aluminum boats do not have the ammenities offered on the newer models. Good Luck

Sylvan has been around forever. Good boats. Handle water well. I have noticed they typically have a bigger rear deck by comparison on many of their models.

thanks, love alumacraft, agree on the lund price point, still looking but have not jumped on anything yet.

Not to muddy the water, but the Mirrocraft Aggressor is another boat to consider in the 17' segment. They are not tied to just one motor brand and I think they make a good boat. Their current model will hold 9' rods, not sure about older models.

They have a stronger dealer network in WI than MN so this may be a factor depending on where you live.
