| I came to realize in a flash of insight, after a non tangle with a good fish recently, that if I don't get a fish that comes off an isolated small cover on the cast that brings him off, I have aproximately 2-4 casts to make that fish hit, with a decreasing chance on each cast.
However if I get a fish to move in heavy cover either to the edge, off of it, or just
make itself known within the cover, ie a flash or a veer or a comeuppance, that this fish is often worth 15 casts or so and that chances of success are good even as much as 20 casts later.
Anybody else think about this and why it might occur or disagree that it does occur?

| Nothing but experience to back this up, but I agree with you. I find especially with the big girls, the little one fish areas are worth the 6 or so casts changing direction at least twice, if no show, then GO!
The heavy cover I litreally beat to death, ask Jason. He has been with me on a big fish search in heavy, big cover, and had to request we move on, as I was so fixated on catching that fish. |

| Once caught one in the Cass Lake Tourney that hit on the twelveth time the fish followed my bait or my partners bait. Not on 12 straight casts but four trips back to the fish brought about these results. I really believe that we all give up way to soon. I also have a buddy that will figure 8 a fish for up to a couple of minutes or more and swears that sometimes these fish come back to bite. Go figure.

| I had a long post on this that got timed twice, but the essence of my theory on the whole thing was that once the fish moves off what I believe to be an ambush spot, that the fish is less likely to be successful in any attack and is much more passive on any ensuing casts, whether instinctive or reinforced behaviour I don't know. I also contemplate the possibility of a security issue for the fish, but...
The other thing that I would entertain is that it could be there were two fish or more to start with in the heavy cover patch and you actually are buzzing another fish instead of your initial sighted fish.
Either way I know I do NOT want to be experimenting when I hit these little stumps, logs, whatever it might be. I definitely want something that evokes a hit not a follow on these places. |

| Absolutely!! I have found the multiple fish pattern on small spots, too.
I think the fish are exposed to the presentation successfully in a shorter period of time on the small spots, and it either works, or it doesn't. The bigger areas require more of a beating to actually get the presentation in front of the fish, and then...it either works, or it doesn't.
