Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Algae Bloom?

Subject: Algae Bloom?

When typically does the algae bloom occur for Ontario lakes?

Meso vs Olo lakes?
How long does the bloom typically last?
Pre-bloom and post-bloom action?

We seem to be catching the tale end of the bloom the last couple of years at end of August and it seems to have an effect. Seems to me that by September, bloom is gone and action seems to pick up.

Thoughts??

On LOTW, it varies alot from year to year. This year it started early, by the end of June, it was the worst I have ever seen that time of year. However, it seemed to disapate in July, and by September, was almost gone. Algea is strange stuff, each year is different. I try to find water that has been blown clear, you can catch fish in heavy bloom, just not the easiest thing to do.
