Posts: 197 Location: N Illinois | Wow, another new tournament. Good luck Steve. Lets see. Now we have the PMTT Trail, PMTT Mega tourny, Bob M's mega tourny, the WMT, the MMT, Hartmans Minn tournies, Rollies and Helens, all the MI sponsered events and A few more I'm sure I've missed. I have a feeling that this glut of tournies is going to start affecting participation at the various effents. The pool of probable tournament contenders is only so big. Will the number of available venues take anglers away from other tournies? I would think yes. I think it is great as a participant to have so many choices of waters to fish. Alot more dates makes it easier to enter a tourny around other schedules. But my fear is that people will start doing either one or the other. Most only have so much time or money to do X number of tournaments, so a choice will be made. Those who were thinking of doing tourny A, B and C, now might choose A, B, D or F. Or, instead of doing a bunch of smaller ones, one might decide to do only one and go for the big bucks. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out and who, if any, are affected.

There are lots of opportunities, for sure, but most of the events listed now certainly can and should fill up if the promoter does a good job with the rules, and operation of the events.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I think the larger number of tourneys will have a positive affect on participation. The more local tourneys, the more the avg. joe will sign up. Instead of just having a few tourneys a year, the numbers are growing and the places the tourneys are help are expanding. Maybe participation from the PMTT trail guys will be lower in all of the tourneys, but in the over all picture these will give the local guy a chance at a paycheck. Hulbert

Posts: 358 | I believe what will happen is that participants will become more selective on which tourneys they wish to play a part in. I agree with the fact that how well the tourney is run plays a large part in how many anglers it will draw. Is sportsmanship promoted? Are the fish treated in such a way as not joepardize the well being of the fish, and the safety of the angler? Only time can tell.

Posts: 91 Location: Oshawa, Ontario | What about a Canadian Tournament Trail and an American Tournament Trail with a Qualifier and a Classic to finish it off (just what we need, another tournament idea?!) But as we all know the biggest muskies and the best muskie fishermen/women are in Canada, so it would be a little one-sided in favour of the Canadians!!!!!!!!!! (easy folks, just having a little fun with a competitive idea!!) Seriuosly though, for us Canucks without any sponshorship to fish your big $$$ US tournaments is tough because of travel and expense, even though a good number of us would like to. A Canada/US tourny trail may provide the competitive edge and a reasonably affordable "fix" to some serious fishing competitions. Comments welcome.

Posts: 429 | This same thing is happening in the walleye world, mainly in the amateur level team tournaments. In WI you have the WWA, the new GNWC, the MWS, the NEW, I may have left one or 2 out. If you lumped all the participants together minus crossover from those circuits you would have one heck of a circuit. Hard to say whether its good or bad, it just is. Hard to criticize any one of them, because they are all well run. Zach

Posts: 633 | The tourney's that you listed all come at different pay points. Personally I can't afford the PMTT, Rollie & Helen's, or the Megabucks tourney's. I also can't free my time to run very far into Wisconsin for the WMT, and my livewell isn't big enough. I am looking forward to seeing the schedule for the Minnesota tournament trail. I like the fact that it is 1 day. You show up, you fish, you go home. Don't need to find lodging. You also don't take a whole weekend away from your family. With this new tourney trail, it will actually probably fill every week for these reason's. I might be able to talk my wife into letting me fish a few of those tournaments, or I might try to be a judge boat. I don't think you will see more high buck trails starting, but we will probably see more medium series starting, and appealing more to the weekend warrior. Most of them will be regional for those of us who can't take alot of time away from the family, or don't want to travel to other states. These will also hopefully enhance the PMTT and some larger tournaments. The reason I say this is because people will get their feet wet in smaller/cheaper tournaments, and then possibly in the future will go after the larger payouts. This is just my opinion. Lance

Posts: 925 | Good points Lance. Bottom line is if people can afford to fish any given tournament. It will give us MN guys a chance at fishing some home lakes without all the expense of travel and lodging. Also, people are going to start getting smarter and looking at % payouts. I'd rather fish tournaments that have a better payout percentage than others. Get more for your money if you do get lucky enough to place.
