Howdy,

Does anyone have any direct experience with the 10/9 Double Cowgirl?

Specifically, do you notice any difference in performance or catch rate compared to a standard double 10 or standard double 9?

Also, any issues with getting the blades to spin properly due to the different size blades?

Take care,

Ruddiger

They spin perfectly. I've caught fish on 10/9 blades but I also still catch many fish on double 10s, 9s, 8s, 12s, 13s. It's a tool to use on pressured water. Not necessarily the missing link to always catching more fish.

I mostly make my own bucktails so while not a Mayhem product my 10-9 experiences reflects what Kirby stated. That said; my best performing bucktail last year was an 8-9 I made in late August. By October it had 8 fish including 2 over 50. Not a silver bullet but another effective arrow in the quiver...

When making your own do you they start up fine or do you use a special clevis?

I make my own stagger blades with regular clevis' with many different kinds of blades and they almost always work just as well as any double bladed bucktail. The only ones that I know that had issues are over sized willow blades. The Oddball Brute by Baitrigs uses a giant willow blade that normally doesn't play well with others, but they fixed the problem by putting a bead in between the clevis'. It works perfectly that way.

I just use a larger clevis than the ones seen on a Showgirl and have next to no issues with blades opening. Spanky's and Dadson's do this with 8 bladed baits and they seem to open much better than Showgirls..

Also make sure the clevises are straight and parallel. I have to tweak almost every one.

If you catch two or three nice fish on a specific blade combo you'll swear it's because of that combo. You should most definitely keep casting that spinner until you totally loose confidence in it. Bucktails are strange and amazing tools.

Just curious. Does the 10 or the 9 go on the top?

Works both ways. I believe Mayhem uses a .40 and a .25 blade in a specific order. I can not remember what order. I make them and have had success either way.
