Posts: 224 Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | So I was in the process of getting all my pike gear together for some early season Mississippi River backwater fishing hopefully in the next few weeks and I noticed that I had a few 4” softail phantoms with the tail missing. Well with it being winter still this turned into me playing with using different plastics as tails in my bathtub for 2 hours. Hands down my favorite one I tried was using the last 1.5 inches or so of a keitech 3.8 fat impact swimbait. Keitechs are super soft so the paddletail kicked well every time the bait moved and looked amazing. It also gave the bait a little shimmy on each glide, and really made it wobble more on the pause while it is slowly sinking. I’m really impressed with the results of this, I’ve always been curious how a swimbait tail would be in a glider. Next I’m going to try a 4.8 tail on a 6”. I don’t know how much of a difference this would make but I’m sure it will work. Pike and musky both love Paddletails and they both love gliders. I bet it will work, never hurts to show the fish something different especially if you’ve got a lot of pressure. Give it a try I’ll bet you like how it looks The one in the picture I put on a little crooked and barely glued it but it still worked Attachments ---------------- AB8AE55C-A063-4458-9CC3-93C74CB80817.jpeg (170KB - 703 downloads)

Posts: 572 | I'm sure lure companies have tried the paddle tail and found there is enough difference or they feel other tails sell better. My thoughts are the paddle tail won't work as well. However, it is always good to experiment and try different tails. Looks like you did a nice job attaching the paddle tail.

Posts: 461 | Looks good, I really like keitech on the back of a chatterbait for bass fishing.

Posts: 106 | It's like you read my mind! I'm working on making a tail for a hybrid lure that I plan on making slow sinking, and a fast sinking version. Also, it will be mega size! Attachments ---------------- IMG_1483.JPG (110KB - 475 downloads) IMG_1583.JPG (141KB - 476 downloads)

Posts: 68 | I feel like you get more action out of a regular twister tail. Tried paddle tails years ago and never raised a fish. There are some really killer bass swimbaits out now that have giant slow thumping tails that I imagine would be worth a shot. I had a guide up in Ontario that replaced all his soft tails with vertical double grub tails. They were killer, don't know why I haven't switched the rest of mine.

Posts: 224 Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | Tried it on the pool 4 backwaters this week and caught the only 2 pike of the trip on that exact bait. The action was awesome on it. The super soft plastic of the keitech kicked even while the bait was slowly falling. I’d assume that it wouldn’t work as well with a tougher plastic. Super impressed, going to keep testing this out more.
