Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | I just purchased a Lowrance X-87 and am installing it in my boat. This particular model comes with a temperature sensor built into the transducer. I also ordered the speed sensor (SP-X) with it. I also have the split cable (MY-4X) to attach the transducer and speed cables to the unit.
The SP-X speed sensor cable splits. One end is connected to the speed sensor, one end is attacheds to the MY-4X cable (which is attached to the main unit) and the other connector, not sure (there's nothing to attach it to). No additional temperature sensors came with it.
Two Questions: What does the other connector attach to? Another temp sensor? Can it not be attached at all and the speed sensor still works?
One more question: If I don't use the MY-4X cable and not the speed sensor, can I attach the transducer cable directly to the unit?

Location: Germantown & Land O Lakes WI | you're "Y" cable will plug into the back of the locator. The transducer cable and your paddle wheel will then plug into the "Y" the extra connector is for an additional temp gauge.
I dont understand the 2nd question.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | Thanks for your response. Wondering why one would want a speed sensor attached when the transducer had one built in, I called Lowrance and talked to a tech rep. The purpose of another sensor is to monitor the temp in your livewell (or somewhere else) - you can actually monitor three different temps with the built in transducer temp sensor and two additional sensors attached. I also found out the answer to the second question - The question was "could you just hook the transducer to the back of the unit without the "y" cable if you decided to not use the speed sensor? The answer was yes (from a Lowrance Tech Rep) |

Location: Germantown & Land O Lakes WI | I use the additional temp gauge for my baitwells...lets me know when the beer is getting warm! hahahahahaa Oh, they're good for telling you when the minnows may start floating. My walleye rig has 3 temp sensors including ones for the live well and bait well. |

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland | Thanks - I hooked it up and tried it out. It's a greqt unit. As you say, it is for a separate speed sensor for the livewell/beer cooler - not a bad idea!!!. I also contacted Lowrance about it after (response to the thread was rather slow) and also found out what to do. |
