The Hawg Wobbler was one of my favorite topwaters a few year ago. I had one that was just "special". My wife caught a few fish on it too and named it Charlie. However, my tinkering addiction killed it a few years ago and I kinda quit using them all together since I could never find another that was the same as old Charlie.

Is anyone out there making a Hawg Wobbler knock off I could try? Any proven tinkering trick I could try to get my Hawg Wobblers hangin on the "Wall of Shame" to produce more surface commotion and cruise at a slightly faster pace?

Please help... its gonna be a long winter. Thanks.

I don't think you have lost your bait, I think you have lost your confidence. The only problem I have had with hawg wobblers is the occasional one that has the lip put on crooked. If you want to cruise faster that bait is called a jointed pikie or also known as a jointed depth raider. How is it possible that you have a hawg wobbler going to slow? You want one of mine that needs a paint job and some hooks?

FSF,
Nope... haven't lost confidence. Just lost my patience. I still use the Hawg Wobbler when SLOW is good... but only at prime time and only on the "spot on the spot" type places where I THINK I know where a fish should be (an attempt to be more efficient). But... I can't seem to replicate the same sound/commotion as Old Charlie... at any speed. Charlie was special as it gurgled and sputtered and had an exaggerated wiggle at a slow crawl AND and a fast scurry. Fast for a Hawg Wobbler is still slower than most topwaters... but I think you know what I mean.

I thought I had it all figured out when I started making my own lips out of #8 Colorado blades (painted one's added a new twist too)... and when I got bold enough to add that "tweak" to Charlie... I killed 'em. I've learned that you can make good baits better... but you can't make a great bait better (ha ha).

I've tried extending the screws on the joint without success. I've tried larger and smaller lips. I've added trailer blades. Nothing seems to replicate it.

Come to think if it... maybe you are right FSF and I simply lost confidence. If so... how do I get it BACK?

Geez Jason, I don't know, I've lost confidence in hawg wobblers myself. Why on earth do you think I would offer you one of my trusted fish producers if I still believed in the bait?!!;-)

Jason,

They have a few left @ Dick's in Appleton. I think they were $8. At that price you can tinker. I picked up a magnum @ Scheels for $10.

Jason got inflicted with the old racing cam philosophy. Some is good, more is better, tooo much is just right! Didn't always work on race engines , either.
