I highly doubt Bucher Tackle will ever pull the trigger on such a project. So, anyone else out there making a similar bait? A 10" Shallowraider would be my ultimate twitchbait.... if they ever made it. Great flash, suspends, can kick it out (Do the Jukes or check the rear view mirror as Chad Cain calls it), yet stays fairly shallow for working in and around cover.

Would anyone else like a lure like that? Are there any out there I'm missing?

You ask and you shall recieve...

There is a bait that is coming out in 2003 that is exactly what you describe.

J, you know my feelings on this one. I would love a 10" suspending shallow running crank, out of the box. It would help me more than you. As on our last outing, you and your JLong Special 10" Jakes moved fish 2 to 1 compared to the 8" Double D I was tossing.

Infact my plan was to buy a couple 10" Jakes this winter, send them to you for modification and then have you give them to TR for extra special painting.

Gee.... would it be illegal for me to sell "Modified Jakes"??? If not, I could get back into the lure business.... Ha ha ha.

There is a bait out there that does NOT need modification though... for any of you who know Steve Warner (a Master Lure craftsman).

P.S. Mike... do you really think it's the lure that out fishes ya 2-1??? Just kidding....

I don't know if it was the lure or front of the boat syndrome. As it couldn't have been anything else.

I would think you could sell modified Jakes, you might even be able to by them for cost and sell them for a premium like Stan does with the custom colors. But why would you want to do that, keep them for yourself and of course your good buddies.

Interesting thought, although I just don't seem to have luck with the 10" baits. maybe cuz I'm not working them as well as the regular shallow raider...???

I've tried to use the 10" quite a bit due to the colder water temps, etc. It hasnt moved fish for me, the regular is geting the action even under 40 degree water.

Maybe I should try to take a stock 10" and mod it up a bit...or get a 7'6" AVID Heavy and make the 10" dance like the reg shallow raider.

Matt, would that bait be coming from Bucher or another company??

Greg, I think that is Matt of ERC. Jason, it wouldn't be THAT much work to make your own out of wood. You definately would be the twitch bait guru to do it. And as always, if you need a field testor....well...:)

Greg, The lure is coming from my friend and X-ERC-Partner Mike Richardson from Bradrock Baits. It is called the "Molly Bait" (named after his cutie pie - daughter). I had the pleasure of tossing a few prototypes this year.

Yah... I had the pleasure of fishing with the Molly Bait too. Mike was the genius behind ERC and really knows his stuff with design and manufacturing. I may be splitting hairs here... but in my opinion the Molly Bait is more like a big Crane Bait than a Shallowraider.

And Matt... how long are you going to make us keep choppin' lips off the TripleD? I'd think Mike could make you a DoubleD pretty easily. Just curious.

Hi guys, long time no chat, nice to hear from you again and thanks for the plug. Yup, just like there’s room for another trinket shop in china town, there’s room another guy in the lure biz.
There isn’t a particular bait that it resembles, and I consider the body shape unique, but I guess one could compare it to any thin-bodied shallow crank bait. The action is as Jason described above and somewhat typical for a shallow crank. The initial run of baits offered will be a slow rise in 7.5 and 10-inch lengths. There will also be differently weighted versions down the road. My ol’buddies Matt and Jason saw the finalized body shape. That has been done since spring. I just at last put the wraps on the final lip design after countless hours and prototypes. I wanted to make sure I had it just the way I like it. I’m confident you’ll like the action. I’ll be doing my first production run in the very near future and I’m not sure when I’ll be ready to start selling or if I’ll even make the shows. I know I’ll definitely be done by spring though.
If anyone has any questions of comments please e-mail me. [email protected]

Ps. I’m looking to hire a graphic designer to help with company logos and packaging stuff. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know. The only qualification I want is for them to be musky fisherman.

I like the Big Fork Pulsator in 10". It's got some awesome flash and roll and a very unique movement to it. It out dances any other shallow twitcher that I have.
I was fishing an 8"er with Sworrall last year and it was ticking him off because the bait had so much movement to it that he thought I was getting a bunch of missed strikes, but it was just the bait moving. He even said "Will you quit throwing that thing, you're giving me a heart attack."
