| How much braid is everyone putting on their trolling reels with mono backing? Do you think 75 yards is adequate ? |

Location: Northern Illinois | no, not enough. I always put on around 200-300 feet. So I have extra when I have to re-tie or god forbid a terrible snag and you can't turn the boat around fast enough. |

| it depend ,if you use planer board or not . if you don't 300 feet is more than enough.in normal water clarity no 1 need to put more than 150 feet of line out ,and if you use 100 lbs no fish are gonna take 150 feet of line out ,not even close.
900 feet of braid for trolling ? i guess you writes yard instead of feet no ?

Location: Northern Illinois | Feet Correction. I've had 50 inch fish pull out 150 feet of line on Claire while trolling with a mast system. Also depends on where your trolling.. If your only short-lining might not need that much, Also I like to re-tie often when i'm fishing Canadian shield lakes when bouncing off rocks. |

75 yards x 3 feet/1 yard = 225 feet...

I primarily cast, and that is exactly what I do....each 150 yard spool is used on 2 reels. I also see 2 years out of it on each rod as I swap the direction of the line after the first year. With most casts being somewhere around 100 feet at most (tongue firmly in cheek here), you've got a bunch of line that is not even seeing daylight, so swap the ends, and a second year of use is very very possible.

| 75 yards/225 ft is not enough if you're using boards, unless you use 30 or 40 pound mono as backing. You're gonna move a lot before getting the rod out of the holder after hookset. Get a big fall fatty and you might regret it.

| 100 yards is what I put on my trolling rods but 75 would be fine too, even with boards out I almost never have over 120’ out.. I use 20lb backing and tie a good uni to uni...I’ve never got to backing and never will but wouldn’t be worried if I did. I’ve caught 200lb fish on 20lb mono  |
