Got a new sling blade with the palming reel seat and cannot get my hand comfortable on it. All of my previous st. Croix had the regular reel seat. Tried a couple of different reels on the rod and I’m now using a tranx 400. The tranx feels the best of the 3 reels I put on the rod but still can’t get the right feel. Do you guys try to hold the reel further back and still get the trigger? Or do you palm the reel without any trigger between your fingers? Thanks.

Hiya!

I have all fingers in front of the trigger. For my hands, I feel the trigger is just a touch too far back, so I took some tennis grip wrap to build up around the base of the reel and in both sides of the trigger to help push my hand a little closer to the reel.

Took me a while to get used to, but have adjusted now

The trigger just goes behind your fingers. I like it a lot

If you ever get a custom rod made on a SC blank, get one with the new Pac Bay Revolution reel seat on it. Blows the Fuji Palming reel seats away!! Come the musky shows you will definitely see a lot of these rods out there with these new reel seats on them too.

Thanks for the replies unfortunately the rod blank is spinning inside the handle and reel seat. It’s going back.

I don’t like their new reels seat at all and just can’t get used to them. I palm all my baitcasters and like them to have the same feel. The palming seat just feels foreign to me. I have many St Croix rods and wish they would allow you to order either reel seat on the Legend and Elite series. I’ve called their customer service to inquire about getting the standard reel seat but they said they are only making them with the palming seat. I guess I’ll need to look elsewhere for new rods in the future.

I have always put all four fingers infront, in fact my index finger wraps the front of the reel
so the palming grips are preferred especially when using the tranx 400
its uncomfortable for me on a regular grip with the tranx 400
everyone is different

For sure James, BEST reel seat ever. I will not use anything else from now on!

That’s a good idea! I had a Slingblade with the palming seat on it and ground a lot of the rear of the trigger down and it helped some. I ended up selling it tho because it didn’t have the same feel as my other rods. I just wish St Croix would offer the standard seat in the LT.

i bought the nasty knowing i would get a rod builder replace the reel seat but he did not have time till fall so i figured even if i scrap the seat i would have him change it ennyway so i tried it ! i used a seat like old st-croix (fuji ) cut it and shaped everythig to fit togheter nice .
