Posts: 791 Location: North Central IL USA | BNelson - 9/4/2019 9:03 AM the stay lock 5s are not hard to open Stringease or Mustad? These stringease ones on the stealth leaders are a pain. Not so much early in the day but towards the end of the day. IDK, maybe I change lures too much???

Location: 31 | If you make your own leaders, you could easily to make your own snaps in any size or shape you want too. Using 360lb / .043 bronze wire will be much stronger than anything you can buy, and you can use them until the bronze color wears off without worry... recommend the longer tag end if you copy this one.

Posts: 945 | IMO you would not want a snap you can open easy- that means fish can get it open also. I don't use any snaps. The leaders I order from Stealth Tackle all have welded rings that I connect to baits with split rings. (every lure I own has a split ring on it) Jeff Hanson madisonmuskyguide.com

Posts: 20227 Location: oswego, il | I use stringease but as Jerry said that if you can bend wire you can make a snap. I have made them just like a stringease and by changing the tension, they don't open.

Jeff Hanson madisonmuskyguide.com 100% agree, that's what the longer tag end on the one in the pic is for... takes a deliberate action to open and close. It's fast and easy... However, if you change baits a lot and have office hands, the welded ring/split ring deal might be be the ticket.

Nope, no 'office hands'. Compound fracture of my distal phalange from a dog bite. Complicated by a bone infection. My surgeon pulled the nail out to get at the infection. Other thumb was whacked by a hammer years back. That nail came out too. It's never been the same. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
