How should these be set? Some are spring loaded, some say pinch...Any advice would be appreciated.

I haven't opened mine up for a long time but I don't think their is any difference in them just check them by comparing how they work. Throwing musky stuff you can probably push them all out (engaged) it's just another setting mess with it all

Tranx have their issues like any reel. Brand new 400 level wind quit on my trip to LOTW. Replaced with my spare NACL.

That’s because you bought the wrong tranx.

Hey st, what exactly makes a shimano or daiwa better than an abu? I want to know what I've been missing for 40yrs. Parts, engineering, design, what?? Kdawg

everything. first it will last years without the need to change any parts ,way more smooth way more everything. kdawg don'T tell me that you think abu is the ferrari of the reel ? shimano and daiwa are better since years. that's why you usually pay more. in your head what sound better a reel made in china or a reel made in japan ?? imo abu are behind since lexa, tranx, luna, calcutta, tekota the days were the 7000 were the best are gone since long time ago.revo, toro are not bad but it'S not a reel that will take the abuse like the big 2 company . i seriously hope you will get a try,you will see a biggest difference whit big blades. i hope you keep an open mind, i will no more talk about that subject. if you feel happy whit pure fishing , fiend. cheers

Thanks for the education lesson super troller. So you had some bad luck with abu reels in the past? Does that mean every abu reel is bad? Who needs the open mind here? And for the record, I will never make a blank statement claiming abu reels are better than others, especially because of the fact, I don't fish with shimanos or daiwas. Sure some abu reels are made in china, ones that I don't use. My revos say Korea on the bottom and my round reels are Sweden, with the one exception my 7000ihsn. I get it, you don't like abu. You are entitled to your opinion. And that's what it is, your opinion. The next time your on a bps or cabalas site, just check out the number of positive reviews abu reels get. Are those folks closed minded to? Kdawg

Tried the 500 - didn’t fit how I like to fish so I sold it. Just saying brand loyalty is personal derived from personal experience. Different people have different experiences. I have several Shimano reels as well as Abu Garcias. I like both.
