Seems the fish were really going Saturday.  We couldn't get a taker Sunday, though. How did you do on the water this weekend?

We went up to North Webster on Wed. I took my sceptical uncle. He wasn't so sceptical after having 2 hot follows before 8am! Moved to another lake after lunch and I hooked a 35" pike but lost it. At 4pm my uncle got nailed by a trophy pike with 2 feet of line off the tip of his rod! He saw it and kept his composure but about got pulled in with a green fish on his rod tip! We landed his best pike ever. A beautiful 40"er. He's fished Vermilion dozens of times in his life but never caught a musky or even a "trophy" pike up there. He believes my Indiana stories now. We had a great time!

Sunday was nine hours of nothing for me.
Thursday afternoon was better with a 34 and a 38 - short line trolling the weedline.

Finally got my first legal of the season from Silver. I raised a couple of decent fish right away, and then once I found the fish worked them with suckers. I went 1 for 2 on the Howie rig. The first fish that took the sucker went deep and just sat there. I figured it was a nice fish. I let her have it, and apparently I did a "Morse" hookset. The hook burried back in the sucker, and no fish attached. I rerigged the sucker, and went back at it. 20 mins. later, the reel just went. I stuck this one, and she was a nice plump 35.5. Good enough to break the under 20 streak on Silver. Hardly any boats on the water. Great to be out. Next weekend, Flambeau Chain for some monster fish row trolling and sucker dragging.
Good Lungen,
Joel

Awesome weekend on Pelican. We managed to find a few fish laying around that Steve and Slamr hadn't already soremouthed. Boated a 44 and a 37, lost a fish that was in the 45-47 range and moved a whole bunch more(10 or so). Found another BIG fish Saturday that I can target for the next couple of weeks.

The fish on Pelican were behaving a lot different than usual, almost like Canadian fish. No fear of the boat and they would chase figure eights until you were tired of doing them. Almost every fish we raised was real aggresive near the boat, but for some reason we couldn't seal the deal on them.

My wife had a 41" smash a Super Stalker early in the day. Later had a fish of comparable size follow a weed-fouled crank-bait through 2 complete figure eights. Must have had a good pound of weeds on that bait. No way I could have hooked that fish if it decided to hit that mess.

Norm,

We moved a pig on the NE corner of the flats nearly even with Crescent. That was a very good fish, into the 30# class. Followed the Wabull low and slow, cruised past the rig and kept right on going. It passed the sucker without even a look.

I was on LOTW's on Saturday. Weather was cold and the fishing a little slow. What I mean buy that is that the pike bite was slow but the Muskies seem to be going good. We caught a 34" and a 39" muskie and one 37" Pike. Then tragedy struck. I had the biggest hit of my life on a 7" Salmo. This fish fought so hard that I was getting tired as I brought the fish to the side of the boat. I was now trying to pull the fish up from the depths when my lure pop off the fish. Ahhhhhhhhhg. #@$$@#. When I looked at my lure, one of the trebles had straightened out. I am now changing all suspect trebles on all my lures. Don't let this happen to you. There is nothing worse then lossing a fish (maybe the one of a lifetime) because of failed tackle. I have caught lots of muskies now with the biggest being 35 lbs and this one felt like double. A mid to high 50's fish anyway!

Good luck until next week

Fished in the Bemidji area on Sat. and Sun. with a couple of Wis. boys.

Sounds like the fish were really active wed.-fri. up there, but slowed down sat. and sun. was nil.

3 members of my MI club boated 4 fish on thur and fri. before we got there, including a 52.5" x 25". I managed a 42" on a sucker, and lost another on sat. fishing by myself, on Sun. fished with Jon Olstadt and Fred Johnson (tinsel tails), but we got skunked.

One boat on Thurs = 2 muskies, three boats on Fri-Sat = 8 muskies west of Minocqua. The biggest was 43-44" and the rest were 35-39". The sucker bite was hot with 8 of the fish boated on suckers and at least 4 others lost on suckers.

A big girl I lost stopped me dead in my tracks on the hookset. She stayed down and fought me for a few seconds, I felt a hard head shake and then.....nothing. Felt like the hooks got in her well, but in the end all I had was a mangled quick strike rig with sucker parts attached. Alas, the age old hookset problem with quick set rigs, but I think our % was pretty good.

I fished Sunday and boated a 42 on a suick and a 34 on a sucker. One fish was in 14 ft and the other in 7. It was cool to be on the lake during a light snow shower.

Hmmn Ranger, I think I know that spot. How did you ever manage to get a picture without standing timber in the background?

Luca, Thanks
I have caught pike after dark but in my opinion it's NOT a high percentage game to play. This particular fish was caught at late dusk.

Lynn - You are correct sir. Lake Y. We were concentrateing on the deep weed edges and suspendos in the open area. By watching him last summer, MuskyE taught me how to weight Grandmas so they suspend. Killer presentation that day.
