Posts: 102 Location: Ireland | I have a jointed 10" Believer that is taking on water in the head section . Any ideas how to get the water out and find the leak ? I can hear the water sloshing around in the head section ... I have had it sitting in a bag of rice for over a week , but that`s not working . Rgds , Pat

Posts: 866 Location: NE Ohio | pat, if the waters going in its got to leak back out in the same place. i've had hook rash wear through the belly's and they started to leak. once ya locate where its going in then drill a small hole and get the water out then epoxy areas as needed. sand back to shape and then i just use colored sharpie pens to color the ares. good luck.

Posts: 102 Location: Ireland | Didn`t want to drill a second hole until I knew where the first one was! Found the leak on the front belly hook hanger ... Used a hair dryer to heat up the lure body and the water started bubbling out of the hole . Took about a half an hour for all the water to escape . Now hopefully its just a matter of using some superglue or epoxy to seal the hole . Thanks for the replies . Rgds , Pat .

Posts: 233 | Don't waste your time; drill the holes and use Great Stuff foam. It will last forever with the foam. No need to cover the foam with anything; just take a knife and cut off the excess foam. Drill two holes so the foam can fill the lure...one hole on top toward the front, and one one the bottom toward the rear. Do all your lure before they leak. I have neve been able to save a can of foam once I began to use it.

Posts: 670 Location: mercer wi | Would love to see a wood or full plastic believer, I know someone made a 13" wood version years ago with a metal plate over the bill. Not sure if their still made

swim wizz is full . i think the lil wandering that we got from believer came from the fact that it is extremely buoyant.believer were a bit poor during the time the wire was round ,ive never got any trouble since they use the same wire that was used at the beginning (the flat one ). if you got trouble add baking soda at the hole and some crazy glue . instant fix . if you are too lazy, ship them to me ,i'll take care of them hehe. i remember the wooden one ,it was made by a taxidermist ive never tried them ,they were really nice ,but they were swimming differently

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | FYI - don't use super glue (cyanoacrylates) on this bait. Cyanoacrylates can cause stress cracking in some plastics. Since this area has already experience damage I worry there may already be micro-cracks already started and cyanoacrylates could exacerbate them. Use a two part epoxy.

i have doing it since years for all my jakes and stalkers and ive got nada trouble.cyano don't expend at all, so it's as safe as any non expendable product. hundreds of lure makers are using that recipe for all kind of reason.it'S nothing new.

My assumption is the above is PC (I could be wrong)which is an amorphous material. Amorphous materials, in general, are more prone to ESC (Environmental stress cracking). In simple terms, you apply a load to a plastic (like an insert molded hook hanger) and then apply a chemical that is not completely compatible with it and it causes cracking or crazing. To add some confusion, you could very easily glue two pieces of PC together with Cyanoacrylate as long as you do it fast and in an unstressed state. Once the glue cures, the reactions have occurred and you shouldn't see cracks later. So, you are correct, you can use it for all kind of reasons. However, in some applications you can't. Gluing rubber tails on the back of bait won't be an issue for example. But putting cyanoacrylate on a screw and screwing into your clear plastic tackle box is a very bad idea. When i see clear baits, I assume they are amorphous and switch over to epoxy just to be safe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_stress_cracking

Posts: 82 | I’ve filled all (every) hook hanger as a matter of course with super glue for the last 25+ years on every single hollow plastic bait I have, if I’d of read this 25 years ago I’d of been worried but 25 years on I’ve never had a problem of any kind.

bs ,if Wikipedia pretend otherwise then it's true . by chance no school are accepting that trash loaded of bs propaganda, lies as proof for any school work . that being said ive not read your link ,because crazy glue work no1. so to be honest ive got no interest to read anything pseudo rocket science to prove that I'm wrong. of course epoxy is good ,but the only cons that i see about epoxy is the fact that it'S transparent, but it takes more time to cure if you don't use the junk 5min that turn yellow really quick. but it's not as hard and solid as cyano and baking powder.
