Posts: 7123 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Overrated: the lake you went to just AFTER the bite was ON. Underrated: the lake you went to just at the right time for the muskies to turn ON. *my belief is that lakes are "hot" or not at different times, sometimes it goes by the season, year, week, day or hour. What you think is an overrated lake today, is an underrated lake when I go there 3 weeks from now just before a storm hits, the day of the full moon, when the snow is falling.

Posts: 354 | dpratt, That was pretty good...it sure seems that way sometimes. Overrated: The Chip, one trip to LOTW and you won't consider going back. I believe there are still some monster fish there, and at times it is reportedly good but man......that lake can be a real bugger.

Posts: 484 Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | I don't know how you could rate LOTW "over rated." I have fished LOTW for 50 years and this is now the best muskie fishing the lake has seen for at least 20 years, maybe longer. Sure, you can come up here for a week and hit a bad spell of weather and go away thinking that the lake is not good. But the determining factor in deciding the quality of fishing there is the overall results for the year. I spend at least 4 months every summer fishing LOTW daily and this was the best year ever for numbers and size. Don't give up on it too easily and always try to stay at least two weeks. You will hit good weather and good bites during that time.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | We all have our opinions on over-rated lakes and under-rated lakes. But like Slamr said, it all depends on our experience with them. Over-rated lakes mentioned like Vermillion and Cave Run is someones experience. Take Cave Run for example, there have been around 20+ fifty inchers caught there this year, and there is still November and December to go. There has also been an absolute TON of 47-49 inch fish caught there this year as well. So over-rated, I wouldn't think so. It is all about spending time on the water, and learning how to catch many fish or big fish to change your mind. What you might think of as an over-rated lake right now might change with a simple cast on your next trip. Mike Hulbert
