What does everyone put on their reels before spooling the braid? I’ve heard electric tape, or a few yards of mono first and then braid...preferences? Thanks

I use any cheap thick mono I have laying around 10-20 lb .. can use about anything. no reason to fill your reel with 250 yards of braid.. I put 75 yards on at most.

I used cheap 20# mono w/50 yards of braid on top on all of my reels so I could spool 2 reels with one 100 yard spool. When it wears out you just wind it onto another reel. If I ever I run out of 100 yard spools, I'll pull off some backing. 50 yards is enough until you cut a few feet off a bunch of times.

just don't use old braid for backing up new braid, it will slip on the spool. all previous mono comments are dead on!
