Location: Rockford Il 61108 | I recently was in the Rollie and Helens Tourney in Minocqua and the winning team caught threee musky. At the awards banquet they said the muskies hit as they were doing the figure eight at the edge of the boat. I was always curious if this tactic worked, but now Im a true believer.
I will always figure eight the water before pulling my lure out of the water.

Location: DES MOINES, IOWA | I AM NOT GETTING THE HOOK UPS ON FIGURE 8,S IN RELATION TO THE AMOUNT OF FISH I AM RAISING. I THINK GOING FROM A 7-2 ROD T0 AN 8 WOULD HELP A LOT. THE PROBLEM IS MY BOAT. IT IS A SEA AND SKI MODEL AND I DON,T HAVE THE DECK CONFIGURATION TO MAKE VERY LONG 8,S. I FEEL THIS IS THE WEAKEST PART OF MY GAME, AND ONCE I GET IT DOWN CORRECTLY, I SHOULD DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF MUSKYS I AM BOATING. HOPEFULLY BUYING AN 8 FOOT ROD WILL DO THE TRICK FOR ME. GOOD FISHING. |

| 3 tourny fish this year on 8's
and a longer rod makes it easier but not the cure all..........
i have caught several 8 fish when doing it with my 8 foot rod in to the last eye on the rod........
the way the weather was for that tourny and the water clarity made for some lazy follows......and 8's over that deep water is not something alot of people do....

Location: Chicago, Beverly | Best advise I give anyone that Musky fishes is do figure 8's. Every cast. Some people disagree and only do it if they see a fish, I've caught several that I never would of seen unless I figure 8'd. Length of rod? I don't know how much that matters, most of mine came off a 6'9" Premier Musky rod by St.Croix fishing out of a 16' Lund or a 16' Tuffy Rampage. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | i checked in at the musky shop sat. morning to hear the news of tough fishing, so i did fish (not in the tournament) the chain on sunday. i planned on just staying our of the way and run some break-in time on a new boat, but ..... the wind was really rough and i'm a believer that the wind is your best friend ..... there were no tournament boats to be seen on kawagasaga or minocqua .... everyone must have been on tom and little tom .... i worked the islands on minocqua and kawaga alone in the pounding waves .... moved 4 nice fish in 4 hours and caught a 42" .... gotta be in the middle of the nasty stuff to catch the fish .... saw two check-in boats talking to each other on minocqua .... i was the one in the center console ranger .... i just don't buy into this warm weather bs stopping the fish .... it has affected some turnover conditions negatively, but the water that isn't in transition are producing fish |

Location: Chagrin Falls, Ohio | I think some of it depends on water clarity. If I have a foot or two I usually just make a long L turn and get the bait back into a percentage spot. But I did have some strange figure 8 fish this year in realitively clear water conditions, sometimes from under and behind the boat. My girlfriend had one hit a Top-Raider when it was dead in the water after a figure 8, while we were talking. Good fishin, Tyler

| I never did well on figure eights, so this year I tried just making a J move and have had more success than in the past. I think fish lose the bait on a figure eight too easily. |

Location: Chicago, Beverly | Six follows this weekend, 5 of them chased the baits in fig 8's, one of the 5 resulted in a caught fish. One fish folloed my bait through at least 8 fig 8's, my brother had one follow through about 5-6 8's. If I had done just a "j" or a "l" never would have saw or caught the 35" fish. Giant circles to me work just as well as a fig 8. It depends on how well the bait runs in a 8. Water clarity was about 2 feet where I caught the fish. Tip was in the water. |

Location: Crystal Lake, IL | When fishing with Pete Mania about 7 years ago and getting many follows (13) but no takers...I asked him what my problem was. He said when I do my figure 8 my bucktail blade is stalling or fluttering in and during the turn. He said I wasn't performing the figure 8 fast enough. Since then I have perfected my technique. Now I keep the rod as deep as I can and do "the loop" or the figure 8 as fast as you can. I do my figure 8 so fast with as much of the rod in the water as possible that it feels like there is an electric razor in my hands due to the fishing line cutting/vibrating throught the water...this really turns them on. I have 18 muskies in my boat this year...7 were caught on figure 8's. Not tooting my horn just trying to add some sense to this sickness we all share.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Yeah, now I believe, too. At the LOTW outing, I got my first fish on an 8; 20 minutes later near the same spot I forgot/spaced out, whatever and pulled my bucktail from the water only to see a muskie's mouth coming out of the drink and up the gunnel trying to get it. Next day I did one of the big circles and banged my rodtip right up the side of the fish's head; didn't even see it until then. I just need to practice, practice. m |
