The Arizona Game and Fish Commission met on Friday... May 10 - at the Prescott Resort & Conference Center.

"Request to approve the introduction of tiger muskellunge to the state of Arizona to provide a featured species opportunity for recreational fishing, and request for approval of an amendment to Commission Order 40, which would include establishment of a catch-and-release only designation on tiger musky at Horsethief Basin Lake for the calendar year 2019-20."

Good step in the right direction when it comes to re-introducing pure Muskellunge - to Arizona. While this may not provide much opportunity for fishing... it will allow the Arizona Game and Fish to study, observe, and collect much needed data.

I remember when Northeast Canada - US were the main places these fish resided: Ohio river valley, NY, Minn, Wisconsin and Ontario - Quebec. Interesting how stocking Musky, pike, walleye has extended there range to places I would never have associated these fish

Colorado no longer stocks tigers and never managed as a gamefish, just a control fish for out of control species like suckers. Wyoming and Montana also stock musky. I hope Arizona does. As far as "native" goes most all the lakes in that region are not native.

I was able to spend a few minutes on the phone with the AGF, this morning.

I believe they have the go-ahead. From what I was told... the boxes to have the Tiger Muskies shipped - have been sent to Utah.

You wouldn't think the Muskies in Utah would be hybrid tigers.

Utah makes their own tigers and I've caught some real monsters there. They have a pond with purebreds that they cross with female northerns, the opposite cross from most hatchery produced tigers. I've broke 50 inches twice in Utah and caught some really heavy mid 40's tigers as well. They won't stock purebreds for fear they might reproduce and overrun or ruin other fisheries ( particularly trout).

We must overcome the fears of Muskellunge.
