Has anyone found any success with any of the Savage Gear baits with the S-curve swimming motion? I'm talking line thru trout, 4D perch, 3D shad. They look amazing in the water but I'm not sure how effective they'd be over something like a swimmin dawg with a paddle tail, or a regular dawg. The 4D perch has me interested.

Ive caught several on the line thru trout. 10” in walleye and the silver one. They swim great and you can fish them slow.

The 4-play slow float was a rock star. Not a soft bait but what action. Not durable the Gill plates broke but while they lasted they caught fish.

They have their time and place like everything, they are crazy crazy popular here in europe for big pikes.

For reasons i won't discuss here, i try to stay a away from savage gear equipment, but the line through baits are a stable part in my plano's.

I've had success on the 4 play using a jerk bait retrieve. Sharp pulls followed by a short pauses.

pike guy from europe:

love the line thru trouts (30 and 40cm) and the roach (25 and 32cm) and the 3d line thru pike (30cm)

unfortunatly ive had problemes with the 4d line thru pike, the joint between the first and second segment in the 48 cm is really fragile, the lure will rip itself apart after a few hours of casting, had the same probleme with 3 different lures and ive heard that the 37cm version has similar quality issues

They look like they should work but never had luck with them. There permanently in mothballs for me.

I have had great success with the 40cm 3D and 4D line -thru trout, the 50cm 3D burbot, the 32cm 3D line-thru roach, the 48cm line-thru pike, the 30cm 3D rat, the 25cm 3D hybrid pike, the 30cm 3D line-thru pike and the 15cm 3D suicide duck. I only got to troll the 48cm 4D pike last fall and I didn't run into any durability issues but I did not cast it. Deadly lures for monster pike!

I have the 32CM line through trout and absolutely love it. Can be fished super slow with jerks or just straight retrieve.

Zinox, curious as to why you would steer clear of them, I certainly don't want to support companies that don't CPR or are run by generally terrible people. PM if you don't care to share on here

CincySkeez, if you find out something that bothers you, please send any 32cm roaches my way!

hmmmm…. you actually said 32cm trout. They only make a 30cm or 40cm trout in the large sizes while the big roach is 32cm. So I guess you prob have a 30cm trout... rats!

The 10" line thu trout I have definitely swims beautifully, I just have some issues with the rigging while casting. Have caught some big pike on it while muskie fishing but I haven't used it a lot.

I think I'll give the 4D perch a shot. How should you fish these baits? Slow straight retrieve with some pauses maybe?

The perch is my least favorite doesn’t seem to swim as well as the others,

That does make sense because it's a lot shorter than the trout baits. From what I saw online it looked alright but maybe I'll pass. Couple other baits I could pick up instead anyways.

usualy the smaller swimbaits from savage gear tend to have mediocre action at lower speeds, from what ive heard this was most notable with the small sized roach and perche

I`m not sure about the 4D lures , but you need to check the line tie ring and crimps on the 3D ones . Wire pulls out of the crimps too easily on some of them . Good lures once you check the rigging ! ......... Pat .

Unfortunate since I was hoping to use the smaller ones to downsize and fish slower when conditions are tough. I've got enough big plastics but could use some smaller ones.

I have actually done well with the 23cm 4D perch. Smaller fish on it then the others but it has caught fish and swam well in the limited time I have used it.

Absolutely! Really hard to find them now and yes, durability was an issue. Still multiple fish days won them a spot in my box forever. The trigger was a slight pause, feed a little line and the bait turns almost 90. When you re-engage it gets hammered. Great in cool or cold water down to low 40's.
