Anybody used these ? Looking at the ugly stick big water. They’re glass for cold temps
I troll a lot by myself would be nice having the length in turns , but just wondering how fun it will be landing a fish with a 12 ft rod and a big kahuna alone. Lol I suppose I’ll have to hold it straight up.

my personal experience is I will not use anything longer than 8ft for trolling I even have some 6'9" and 7' rods
it is a pain to net fish by yourself with long rods especially if your leader is 4ft or longer

Thanks guys. I mean the Baits tangling in turns. Trying to get away from having to use planer boards. It doesn’t happen often , but it has in the past. When the 2 outside lures are running same depth, and I unexpectedly run into shallow water , or a potential snag and have to make a sharp turn. With longer rods the lures would be alittle farther apart. Well I already kinda got my answer. I just seen some in the store close by , and they’re $69. I never wanna pay shipping for a rod.

That rod and trying to land a fish alone seems a huge pain and probably lose fish. Just get some boards, easy fix.

I planned on trolling more this season, agree with mm67 with netting a fish on ur own. I'm also using shorter rods, 6'09" older St. Croix proglass, 7 FT. ugly stick tiger mh, and I picked up a 7'06" heavy Berkley E-cat which would also make a terrific rod for sucker fishing in cold weather. Kdawg

We have a lot of guys use out 10'6" TI XH for trolling and they do fine with them.

I gotta say, a 12ft rod, solo, not the best idea.

7' by myself is enough for me. But in Minnesota we can only use one line so tangling on turns doesn't happen when you are alone.

Ya went and looked at em again. Too long. Goin 9 for the outside rods and 8 for the others. Gotta buy 6 rods and reels so tryin to be cheap. Think I’m gonna go shimano 8’ tdr heavys and change all the guides to recoil guides. Still only be $60 a rod , they’re $29 new. Never had a problem with the tdrs except for the guides being crap. That’s what I liked about the ugly sticks the new guides are all metal. Pretty sure Ide have to pay $200 for a musky trolling rod with the stainless guides

4ft-6ft leader plus 12ft trolling rod and trying to net a fish solo. That would be comical to watch.

@ Martin79

Just buy Chaos Tackle assault trolling sticks. Super tough great back bone. Stainless steel guides. Beefed up reel seat and locking ring. They can be had for around $90-$100 apiece if you call/message Chaos Tackle and let them know you are rigging your boat with new rods. Not to mention those TDR's are super flimsy they are like noodles when you start pulling some heavy 10-14 inch baits plus a board. And using them for down rods is even worse. The eyes and the reel seats will give you issues as well. I went through 2-3 a year. I've used them for years made the switch well worth the money.

muskyhunter07 - 4/1/2019 7:00 AM 4ft-6ft leader plus 12ft trolling rod and trying to net a fish solo. That would be comical to watch.

A while back a friend told me he really liked 6’ leaders because it keeps fouled weeds further away from the lures. That made perfect sense to me so I made some new 6’ trolling leaders thinking that I could also rework them as a 4’ because they usually only get beat up the first foot or so from the rim of the net while netting fish.

I must've looked like a complete novice the first time I tried to net a fish solo with that stupid 6’ leader, can't imagine it's even possible with a 12’ rod too.

When I told my friend what happened, he thought it would have been hysterical watching me, after he quit laughing he told me no problem for him because he always has other people in the boat. Thanks bud!

yeah and even with a net guy.i wondering where te long rod joke is gonna end. are we gonna use 16 f rod soon because some builder somewhere said it is the needed one ? 8 was good years ago and it still dead perfect. for trolling and casting. was sure 8 was the end of the length race ,i was so wrong

We use two lengths. 7ft. down rods and 7.5ft rods for everything else. No problem fishing solo with this set up, and cheap too never paid much for any trolling rods. Plus you can get them in about any action you want from any box store. NO SHIPPING!!
