Location: oswego, il | Favorite early season lures will vary by region because of the different times seasons open or never close. Less is more in fairly cold water. A bomber long a has less action and is effective. The no longer made 7" bagley bang o lure has good action and because it can be easily overworked, does well early within it's limits. Small gliders are good too, not worked overly fast. In fibland, early season can start in February most years earlier if it ever ends in southern Illinois. |

| Just purchased a couple of Big Fork Avitars for early spring fishing. Think they will be good. Really like Rapala Jointed X Raps as well early spring. Anything that can be worked slow that still has good action.
Along with that, I really like double bladed spinner baits in the Spring as well. |

| I always struggle with the idea of "early season" here in N. WI. Our season opens Memorial Day weekend. It can be chilly and feel like very early spring or it can be 80, with 65 degree water. When you look at "early season" are you just considering water temps, weed growth? Just wondering what that means to people.
I tend to look for warmer water, often same areas where I fished crappies in preceding weeks. And while most opening weekends that is where I have had success, in shallow, warmer water. But I don't know if that is the pattern or simply that is where I spend most of my time. Kind of a chicken or the egg thing. |

| Our season opens June so it’s not real cold or early. So I think small baits are not real necessary but I do like glides and tubes early as I think the water temp is still cold enough to make them a little less aggressive unless it is up near 70* |

| Watched our daughter catch her first Muskie with a zebco 33 and a 26" Northern, Mid-May in north central Wisconsin. Always slowed down and downsized prior to that day. Know we throw pretty much anything, any size.
Still partial to twitchin a crane. |

Location: South Central PA | Here in PA we have no closed season so 1oz jigs and 6 to 7.5" neutral suspending cranks work best for us on the river. Most of our fishing is in eddies in higher flows so most of our fish are concentrated in small areas especially right after ice out. |

| On shad or alewive forage lakes, a Cordell Redfin is a good choice from the 5 inch to the 7 inch and especially the jointed. On lakes with crayfish a zoom brushhawg is effective if you know a fish is in the area.(can't cover water very fast). A smaller bucktail like Slippery Sam Jr. or Baby Girl is another option. |
