If given the choice of the following two for jerk baits, glide baits and walk the dog style top waters, would you choose a 6.3:1 with 28 inches per turn or a 7.1:1 with 32 inches per turn?

32" per crank is what I would use.  Personally 28" sounds too slow for how I like to fish the baits you mentioned.

Mallard, as I give it more thought, I'm thinking the 32" would be a better choice also due to the amount of slack line that occurs while fishing these types of baits.

yes the faster for sure...I use 40IPT on most of my baits that give slack line to pic it up fast!! can always reel slower can only reel so fast

Conventional wisdom would say the faster reel picks up the line faster which is what you want. I like using my TE reels with a slow retrieve. The mental cadence allows for a longer pause. I think that is key.

Use ur high speed reel in warmer water, ur slower geared reel in cold water. kdawg
