So I bought some a while back and tried them again on .51 wire and still needs a jerk to spin and may stop on the figure 8. Any thoughts on these or why they seem to be not working well?

They are junk. The S has to be exactly right to work proper. And as soon as it gets bent it’s junk.

i bought a pack f them when i first started building my bucktails i had to remake all of the ones i put these on with two clevis.

look at the clevis while its on the wire making sure the top and bottom (where it attaches to the wire) are 90 degrees to wire ( if not take pliers and squeeze until the are) you can also take pliers place on blade right at the clevis and a very slight bend toward the shaft to allow the blade to grab more water
