Ok, ok...so it's not muskie fishing but without a doubt one of my passions.

Probably should've been fishing today but non the less enjoyed the dawning of a new day with my favorite blonde..:)

Hey Jason,

When I was picking up the decoys I spotted about a 45 cruising the shallows by the rock bar....maybe we should've fished that yesterday..LOL.

I have three mallards in the crock pot as we speak. My son shares your passion for the hunt, and is training a field dog (Springer named Guage) this year for Grouse. You are fortunate to have such a loyal companion, sir.

Mr. Wolters ("Gun Dog", Water Dog", etc) would be proud....

Mark..Nice pics, Glad to see you got some duck off that spot we scouted on Saturday.

You say you saw a 45" in the "shallows".........makes that casting undertakers in 15ft of water over baitfish seem silly...right! LOL

Stephendawg...

I actually read both of those books and have used many of the same methods when training. Richard Wolters was very much a pioneer and great inspiration to many in the dog world. I have always believed in training with a gentle hand. With Mande she made it pretty easy, she is far smarter than many dogs, and quite a few people I know too. hehe...:)

Jason,

The 45 was on the sunny side of the point where there was sparse cabbage, this is the same side of the point that drops sharply to 20 feet of water. Hey I'm a suspendo freak going through withdrawls...I can't help it...LOL...

Mark, I too have read Richard's books and agree how helpful they are. I spent the weekend with my 7 1/2 year old golden retriever who probably showed me her best performance yet. The ducks were flying great and with the water so low, my golden did an awesome job retrieving in 7-8 foot grass. Now, she lays on her bed at home and hasn't moved 20 feet since 2:00pm Sunday!!! Great picture....... I prefer reds over blondes though.

Just like my outboards and coffee, I prefer mine black. Ran Field Trials for several years, and my Max dog made the Derby List. I miss my black dogs, and need to get another, soon. Eric is old enough to hunt now, so I think we will start the search for the dog soon. Next year, Mark, we will have to get together for a combo duck-ski hunting weekend!

I too, used Wolters books when training my labs. Amazing how within a day or two of 68 days, that pup will respond to it's name the first time!

Shep,
That's great!!! I thought that I was the only one who had problems with Wolter's daily systems. After 15 days or so I had a cat that would retrieve and a dog that wouldn't!!!! A great read for anyone interested in training a gun dog.
