Posts: 5 | European northern pike fisherman here. Have read and learned an awful lot on these forums about various tactics which transfer across the disciplines. Have been a casual viewer for quite but now hoping you guys can help me with a query. And this is something you definitely know more about that us Europeans - multiplier reels. I have a 20-60g rod which will reflect the lures I'll be throwing and I need to pair it up with a low profile reel. We have limited choice over here on this side of the Atlantic but a localish shop has both the following in stock: ABU GARCIA® REVO TORO® BEAST™LOW PROFILE ABU GARCIA® REVO® PREMIER LOW PROFILE Both the latest versions, both similar money. I have been researching and am thinking that the Premier might be too small and the Beast might be slight overkill? But my knowledge is limited on these. Any advice or preferences greatly appreciated. And remember its Northern Pike I'm fishing for, not muskie. Up to 9 or 10kg but average maybe 2 or 3kg. Thanks guys.

Posts: 177 | europike - 1/25/2019 3:41 PM Actually they have the Revo4 Beast 40 too. Might be a good middle ground? Seems like a perfect middle ground to me! The abu website says it has the same line capacity of the Toro Beast 50, but with 5 lbs more drag. Also lighter at 9.5 oz compared to 13.5 oz.

Posts: 1100 | Im from Europe, and its not that hard to get Shimano´s, i own a bunch of them, and they are imo a far better option than the ABUs you mentioned, still have my 2 toro beast that i use sometimes, but they are not quite as nice as the tranx, and sold my Revo beast, (not toro), as i think the 200 curado does a far better job casting the small baits. Baits in the size you are mentioned i would go with a size 200 curado or a 300 tranx, the 300 tranx is my go to reel for most of the smaller baits. Just got a nice spinning set up that i really enjoy as well, for the smaller baits.

Posts: 5 | I found one place selling the Tranx but it's quite a bit more expensive than the Abus mentioned.

Posts: 32788 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The Beast 40 would be an excellent choice. I ran one all last year and was very impressed. It handled all my pike and muskie lures up to double 8s really well.
