I recently purchased a second depthfinder (Lowrance X-87) for my boat and plan on mounting it on my boat. As a troller (mostly) I am thinnking about mounting one of the transducers on my front trolling motor and the second on the rear of the boat. This way, I will see things as they are coming at me also.

Any comments on this idea and is there a downside to this? I can't think any problem with this other than possible "noise" from the motor. Does anyone else do this?

The transducer on that unit covers a cone 1/3 the total depth at the bottom. If you are in 30' of water, figure the cone at the bottom at 10'. If you have an 18' boat, the front of the cone is only13' form the bow. Once you are under power at 1.5 MPH there isn't going to  much of an advantage.

The idea of having a front transducer for me is making sure I have the bow of the boat exactly where I want it while using the troll motor. The new sonars have a processor that 'ignores' trolling motor RF niose, so that shouldn't be a problem.
