Posts: 1100 | Greg, what did you expect its the roughly same as all the other rods in the LT lineup?

Posts: 790 Location: North Central IL USA | I got one of their Mexican Bass X heavy flippin' rods I'll be using for my smaller baits. Feels great in my hands. Looking forward to using it come Spring. No way I'm dumping 300+ bucks on any rod!

Posts: 1100 | I honestly don't think they intend to target everybody with their second most expensive rod line up. And yes a lot of their other rod lines works great too.

Posts: 114 | I see all the 2019 LT musky rods now only come with the new style of palming reel seat. I have a BIG Nasty with this style reel seat and I'm having difficulty using it without getting sore fingers. Must be holding it wrong. St Croix would not change all LT musky rods to this style reel seat if consumers didn't prefer it over the older style...which I really like. Just saying.

Looking forward to using it come Spring. No way I'm dumping 300+ bucks on any rod! I used to say that but then I tried St. Croix and Thorne Bros. I would never purchase anything else unless the other brands seriously step up they're game. The ultimate muskie whoopin sticks!

Posts: 612 | Tried quite a few over time. Now all I use is St. Croix Avid series and for the big Esox Mojo Musky rods. However If I recall they were in the $(150 to 225) range. Worth every penny. The other plus w St. Croix is I've experienced excellent customer service which I can't say for many others.

Your not alone I too dislike the palming seat. I don’t by st Croix rods any longer because of that. I have turned to having Thorne custom build my rods and another builder and get the rod the way I want with a trigger seat and a handle longer then 14”.

Posts: 482 | i gave in and got a 2018 big nasty last spring and tried the smaller palming and no way i can use this so i cut off the palming and grafted an old style trigger on it works great . Posts: 485 Location: On my favorite lake! | I agree that the reel seat is horrible. Unfortunately, Going to have to wait or go with a Predator because they put these on the elites too.

Posts: 665 Location: Twin Cities, MN | Definitely not a fan of the new reel seat either as I gave one a try on a Slingblade last year and my hands / fingers just could not get comfortable with it. Ended up selling it and am having Keith from Professional Edge build me a rod for next year. I really like having syncork for a handle also, so looking forward to using that next year for when I use blades. Pal

Posts: 859 Location: MN | Kirby Budrow - 12/28/2018 9:53 PM I don’t mind the reel seat at all. It’s certainly a personal choice. I have noticed the smaller a persons hands the more issues they have with the palming grip.

Posts: 88 Location: Wisconsin | All personal preference for sure. I like the palming reel seat as well. Even ordered my TB Predator with one a couple years ago. Wish it was available on all SC musky rods. Tom

Posts: 1677 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I personally won’t buy a rod without the palming seat for muskies. Great news for me. I can sell my long ranger and upgrade!

Posts: 745 | FWIW... IF you hate the reel seat (I personally like them but to each there own...) you can get a LT Custom from Thorne Brothers with whatever seat you want made how you want it made for not much more than what a stock retails for.

Posts: 341 Location: Western U.P. | Was able to get my hands on several of the 8'6"-9' LT blanks for Big Bass & Downsizer Musky to build. I like what SC did with the construction & feel of the blanks, and will be building the first one to use with a new Revo Beast 40. Should make for a nice combo.

Posts: 341 Location: Western U.P. | I have some 8'8" H & 8'11" XH Bass, and 8'6" & 9' ML Musky. The XH Bass should make an interesting Musky rod, as I'm sure the others will also. I've hung baits up to 8 oz off of the tip (just the blank), and it seems a bit much for the rod, but will see this Spring. These blanks are not for everyone as they have a thin, soft tip, and a lighter feel than the current LT & Elite Musky rods.
