| Thinking about getting a Saltist for rod dedicated to large plastics. Setup will be used maybe one trip a year so dont want to dump $ on a Tranx. Any experience with these reels and which model? Looking for a reel with a lever for casting not thumb bar.

| STTLW20H-C would be my recommendation, I’ve had one for 5 years and that’s the only time I break it out is for fall big rubber, good reels for the $ |

| I'm guessing your looking at the automatic engage ones,,because if your looking at an older manual lever one your rubber will sink too fast in rocks. |

Location: Zimmerman | Have both the 20 and 30 older models for big rubber. Gears seem to hold up well with big baits. Higher gear ratio picks up the slack quickly. Drag works well. Big power handle is nice. Haven’t had a problem with self engaging, just have to remember to do it, every cast. I would recommend the 20 for the size, but the 30 is manageable if you find one priced right for a single use reel. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I used to have a 20 self engaging one. It was heavy, but felt like a very durable reel with good power. I didn't love it for casting double 10s due to no spool brakes other than a tension adjustment, but for rubber it was just fine.
A bit of a tank of a reel but if you want something beefy that should hold up well for a fair price I think it's a good option. |

Location: Almond, WI | Great rubber reels. I own two of the newer 20s and an older 30.
As curleytail pointed out, not a great reel for blades, the lack of an internal braking system creates problems with lighter/less aerodynamic baits. But they shine with rubber and I use mine to rip bigger twitchbaits too (9" Big Game, 10" Jake, Mag Shallow Invader).
If you are interested, I am thinking of selling the older manual clutch 30. |
