Location: Illinois | At what point in the fall do muskies move shallow? Does it have to do with water temperature, or where the forage is located? Are there muskies suspended in open water in the fall?

| On my home flowage water in northern WI anytime we get that first cold front of the year that drops water temps about 10 degrees the fish seem to make a move shallow and really get active. Usually it happens late August or early September. A few years ago we put eight in the net in 2 1/2 days including a 49 & 47 which isn’t bad considering it’s lower density water. |

Location: Illinois | I am fishing in Illinois, the lakes are way different than WI and MN structure wise. Most of the Lakes just have flats and open water. |

| If you want the really good shallow push, be looking for that first 3-4 day stretch where high's don't break that mid-60's mark. That usually does it

Location: ontario | upper to mid 60s bigger active fish will come shallow and typically stay shallow until the lake turns over in the mid to low 50s

Location: oswego, il | In illinois, look for a good shallow movement and good fish activity as soon as the nights start cooling off. Can happen now into september but when it does, be fishing. |

No need to make this more complicated than it is and over think things. These are simple fish with simple needs. |

| Agreed except no shad, either perch or alewives. Find the bait, find the fish could be 10' or 50' deep in Chautauqua or Finger Lakes area. Many Pelagic fish where I fish. |
