Location: Alexandria, MN | I have been reading on it, and play with the idea myself. I have removed the tail hook on a few baits, and yes it's a good idea to up size the remaining hooks on some of the lures, others seem fine with the originals. Also sometimes the placement of the two hooks are OK, other times I will move one or both hooks towards the rear slightly.
I find that it is a real try and try again kind of thing. As you change from 3 to 2, and small to big hooks you will notice a change in lure action and bouyancy. Sometimes the hooks will tangle. Then make some extra changes until you get the action and hook spacing you want.
I feel I am still catching the same % of fish hooked, but I am able to get them out of the net and back into the water quicker and safer.
Good Luck -- great way to spend the Winter! |
