| Hello guys!
I use a Calcutta 251 as allround baitcasting reel for Northern Pike. I throw all kind of lures with it (crankbaits, jigs, spoons, bucktails, ...).
The reel works fine, but I do not like its drag (or is it called brake in the U.S.?). I do not know how to explain it, but the drag is the opposite of what I would define a smooth drag. It works jerky and it is almost impossible to set the right drag power. On on esetting the drag power is too low and if you tighten it just a little bit, it is too much drag power...
Do you have any suggestions for me? Is it a known problem with the Calcutta drag? Is it simple to repair? |

Location: Eau Claire, WI | Possibly try a new set of drag washers, that may help the situation. Not sure if "Smoothie" brand washers are available for that model or not but if they are I recommend them.
Possibly try www.hatterasoutfitters.com they have a good selection of drag washers. Or try your local Shimano repair center.
Good luck Dude..... |

Location: NeverNever Lake | E80, I replaced mine with a Dartanium washer like the ones that come standard in the 400s which is a "wet" (greased) washer. Very smooth! I would also replace the spring washers, they will help take care of the stiction problem. You can also put 6.3:1 gears in that reel if you are a speed freak. With this setup you could be "Queen of the Crop"........
