Does anyone know if the first gen, or any of the non G2 models can pair with phones via bluetooth, with a firmware upgrade? The missed calls and messages thing is a cool feature with the newer G2N models. Wondering if you update the firmware on the old ones if they can do it too.

No, they don't. The G2N models have hardware inside them that allow for the Bluetooth connectivity, so it takes more than just software to connect your phone via Bluetooth or Bluetooth Talons, which can also be operated via HELIX G2N and SOLIX models.
