I've never tried baits as large as this type of top-water before and wanted to play around with a couple.

That Cannonball Jr (Bullfrog) is huge so I got the Fat Bastard too to offset it, just in case.

I'm curious which of these two would you folks be likely to spend most of your time pitching?? I'd hate to keep feeling a lack of confidence in that CB. Jr. and I can smell it looking at both baits!

This, coming from a Suick-guy...

Thanks very much.

I bought both at the same time too. I took them to Vermillion in August that year and threw them for the first time. I started with the FB and caught a 44 that absolutely crushed it 15 feet from the boat that first night. Scared the crap out me! The FB was immediately propelled to “confidence lure”. The next night I figured to give the CB jr it’s turn before I got too content with the FB. First spot laced into a big one but was off in just a few seconds, I was so excited I didn’t check the bait and made two more casts before turning on my headlamp to assess the lure. Well, sure enough one of the hooks on the rear treble was bent completely straight! Those rear hooks are like 7/0 and it would take a hell of a lot of force to straighten it like that. I’m thinking that as I set the hooks that fish was turning away from me with force, either way I have to believe that it was a larger fish. But, needless to say, both baits get used plenty now!

They are both great baits that have their place. I like the CBjr in a little rougher water and also at night as it moves more water making it easier for fish to locate in my opinion. The FB has been my go to topwater bait the past couple seasons when it’s calmer and the fish are up shallow and eating. I do make sure that I have a couple of each and have one that has the “tick” and one without. The “tick” has been eaten more frequently in the FB and vice versa in the CBjr. Coincidence? I dunno, but that’s been my experience the past couple years...
If you think the CBjr is big, try the Cannon ball!

In clear or calm water the Fat B has produced well for us. If it's windy or dirty water, I would lean toward the C.B. Jr.

Thanks for the input here and it helps a good bit. And it makes sense. Nice to hear that the C.B. Jr. is a reputable throw and it'll get used when windy.

I'll keep it in mind when out of a few of my fav. lakes this summer.

Agree with what others have said, calmer daytime waters many lean towards the fat bastard, while choppier waters and nighttime really are excellent times for the bigger cannonballs.

I know initially the fat bastard was the go-to Lake X bait to buy, and many had the same concerns as you about the others being too big. I've noticed over the last couple years though more and more people are throwing Jrs or bigger.

The downside to the Jr and regular CB is that sometimes that size can cause you to miss a smaller fish. It is one of the reasons I will always love my Psycho Sisters.
