| I have a question about getting a 2nd battery for my 12 volt Minn Kota power drive V2. I want to add a 2nd battery to run in parallel. I know to hook positive to positive and negative to negative and to run the positive from one battery and the negative of the 2nd battery to the trolling motor. I also will be using two new batteries that are exactly the same. My question is how do I hook up my 2 bank charger? Can I run one bank to one battery and the other bank to the 2nd battery OR should I just run both banks to one battery since they are hooked up in parallel. They are 5amp banks and I’m running both to one battery now to get 10amp. Thanks |

| I don’t think it will make any difference.... unless you put a battery switch between the batteries. |

I did this on a previous boat as well. Hook one bank to one battery, and the other. Bank to the other battery.
If you are worried about an issue because the batteries are not isolated, you can buy a big battery connector that you could set up to unplug the parallel circuit while you charge, then plug back in when you are done...

| Any modern dual-bank charger can have its two banks connected to two different batteries, whether they're connected in series or in parallel, and work properly.
From my Minn Kota MK-210 dual bank manual:
"Each output bank is independent and isolated from one another and the AC input. The Minn Kota charger can charge independent batteries or combinations of batteries hooked in series or parallel without disconnecting the batteries from any switches or wires / straps joining the batteries."
So, hook the two banks to the two batteries, one bank to each battery, and leave everything else connected. No worries. |
