Just curious as to what line everyone uses for backing on their reels.
I used to take all my reels in to get them re-lined, just ordered a big ol spool of Spectron and need to oder some backing line.

See if the Gandermountain by you has the guide series line on clearance for 97 cents. Get the 20lb and your set.

Cheap is the way to go. If a fish is big enough to get into your backing, God help ya.

I use 6 or 8lb mono for backing. It packs alot harder on the spool. IF I get to the backing from fighting a fish, it's my partners fault for not going after it anyway.

Hello guys, I just bought a Abu 5600C5 mag reel and 65pd proline with a diameter of 16. I didnt use any backing. Is it okay not to use backing because this reel is new to me? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Whatever is lying around and is not enough to fill a spool. I"ve used everything from 2-40 lb test. I dont' think it makes much of a differance what it is.

Old 4-10 lb mono that I wouldn't use as regular line. Like ToddM said, it packs nice and tight.

i wouldnt use less than 20, just in case. definitely el cheapo though. evar d-- yes you do need backing. the line will slip on the spool without it. [why doesnt my drag work}???... thats what it seems like with no backing...

I have either 10# or 12# mono on all my reels. Don't waste a whole lot of money on it, though. Save your cash...buy more lures!!!
