I am seeing more and more rods where people have wrapped them with the x-wrap shrink wrapping stuff...
The rods look great to begin with, but I am curious as to the advantages/disadvantages of having your cork wrapped. I'm intrigued by it...especially for handles that are showing their age a bit...
Are they cold on the hands in late season, Hows the wet grip, Any wear and tear on the hands, etc....

Location: Madison, WI | I added it to a bunch of my rods and it definitely helps the grippiness when the rod gets wet. One nice thing about the x-wrap is that it adds to the diameter of the handle by a little bit - which is nice for us sasquatch-sized people. Looks cool and helps prevent wear in the cork... win win win in my mind
That being said... i got a rod this fall with syncork on it and now im not sure i could go back. |

Location: Land of the Musky | Really helps on the grip, also saves your cork if you ever want to sell your rod... Best of all, its super easy to change out to new when it gets worn.... Also, its really nice to put on your older rods that may have some cork wear and damage.

| I have never used the x-wrap, but I do wrap every rod I own with Rod Wrap (which I think maybe out of business) and Winn Rod Handle Wrap. It greatly increases grip (especially when wet) and really preserves the cork (all of which was already mentioned). I have used a rod for up to 2 years with a wrap on the handle and then sold it for a really good price, because the cork still looked new. To me it's a no brainer to wrap your cork handles, but I still don't see a lot of people who do it. |

Location: mercer wi | I've been using x flock for about 8 year. Really preserves cork. Extra grip when wet or cold outside. I use 35mm for larger full cork handles but use 30mm for my split grip st croixs. The 30mm is a little tight to get over last guide to do foregrip, all you got to do is stretch with your fingers. Same with the split grip rods. Tight to get over butt. Reason I like 30mm over 35mm is the tube gets tighter on the exposed blank. The 35 has a small gap but not a big deal.

When you guys install the wrap, do you cut the length a touch longer than what you are covering, then trim to length as needed? I definitely will want a nice clean look if I do this and dave, thanks for stating size you use... I have split grips and same brand of rods so I am very curious to see how those look finished.
Dave, do you have any quick pictures you can provide of your split grip rods?

| I just use a small blow torch, not highly recommend but works greats once you get the hang of it. |

Location: Aurora | Go get a heat gun (they're reasonable and handy) and don't get it from a big box store or online either. Get in yer dayyum car and go patronize a local hardware store that gives back to the community.

Usually shrinks about 30% to 40% max. Same material as electrical shrink tubing. |
