Posts: 200 | I have a Cabela’s 8’ predator musky rod that I haven’t used yet. It’s a medium heavy fast action rated for 3/4-4 oz. I just saw a St. Croix bass x 7’ 10” heavy fast action rated for 1-4 oz. Any idea what would be better for throwing smaller stuff for muskies?

Posts: 1000 | 7'10" mojo bass is excellent for throwing the smaller stuff. I use it and the lighter 7'11" for most of my pike fishing in northern MN/Canada.

Posts: 200 | I really liked how light the bass x was. But the cabelas rod has a lifetime warranty. Not sure which to use. I haven’t handled the predator rod yet because it is a Christmas gift. Do rods cast ok with lures below their rated weight? For example will a rod rated for 1-4 still throw a 1/2 oz spinner bait ok?

Posts: 14 | I used the BassX 7'10" this past season and it works excellent on smaller to medium sized baits. Light and easy on these old bones too...

Posts: 1749 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | My only complaint about the 7’10” BassX is the small rear grip. I didn’t like only being able to get a couple fingers on it vs my whole hand.

Posts: 200 | So will my 3/4-4 oz musky predator rod feel ok throwing 3oz baits?

Posts: 90 | If you want to stick with the medium heavy, I also liked the mojo bass "big crankster" 7'11" MH. Fun for pike and tigers
