Location: Waukee, IA | I've been sealing my baits with epoxy with good results, but I want something a little harder than epoxy. I've heard using superglue (cyanoacrylate) penetrates the wood much better and dries hard (especially if baking soda is used as an accelerant). Cyanoacrylate is not great when exposed to water so I was thinking of using CA for the actual sealing then coating with epoxy to protect against water. Anybody doing this? I just want a little more durable end product than what I'm getting with just epoxy. |

| did you mix you epoxy with some denature alcohol? or just pure epoxy? |

| I use CAB (cellulose acetate butyrate) dissolved in acetone. I use it in 3 steps. very thin, medium and very thick. thin to penetrate and the thick gives it a hard shell.
pic is final coating that dries fast. just happens to be red but comes in clear and other colors.

Location: Moses Lake, WA | What kind of dilution ratios of acetone/CAB are you using in your thin, medium, and thick sealing solutions? I'd like to give this a try, especially for balsa lures which can stand some strength as well as sealing.

| Gary, the thin is like water and the thick is like tomato soup. medium is in between. I have no set ratio, I go by consistency . As it gets used, I add pellets and acetone to keep the jugs full. |

I mixed with denatured alcohol for the initial sealing coat, but used straight epoxy for the second and third coats. Epoxy just seems too soft by itself.
