Please place your report here for the trip to Sabaskong Bay Lodge on LOTW last week.

OFFICIAL COUNT: 149 MUSKIES FOR 27  MUSKIEFIRST MEMBERS IN 6.5 DAYS. LARGEST WAS A BEAUTY OF A 51 PLUS. THERE WERE A COUPLE 48s SEVERAL 45.5s AND A COUPLE 44.5 TO 45s, TOO. MOST OF THE FISH CAUGHT WERE IN THE THIRTIES SOMEWHERE. DAVE AND SCOTT BOATED A 40.5 WEIRD PIKE, AND STEVE WORRALL BOATED A 20# 40" AND A BIT PIKE.

WHAT A TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my report:

The company was absolutely stellar, the food good, and Troy's Walleyes were top shelf on the table, too. Thank goodness we brought the poor fellow along. He was tortured nearly to distraction with the cast-reel-repeat for hours, and mentioned several times he could have caught perhaps 1000 bluegills in that same timeframe. His bass, walleyes, perch and crappies were our cabin's tablefare with the exception of the Thursday pig roast (which was excellent!) I must mention he was just a BIT EXCITED when a 45.5 blasted his topwater and stayed stuck. We got great video of both his and mine, but Keith's was on an 8, and we kind of forgot about the video camera.

The weather was absolutley perfect for the area we were fishing, albeit windy as all getout for a couple days. We went from shorts to heavy clothing, and lost 10 degrees surface temp over a couple days. The fish were absolutely nutz, blasting topwater, bucktails, small crankbaits, and about anything else anyone wanted to toss. There were so many 'personal bests' caught, it is best to let each angler tell his own story here on this thread.

Troy ( Mr. Bluegill), Keith and his friend Ryan and I arrived too late Saturday to fish, and discovered there were many muskies already caught. The pattern was shallow and rocks for us most of the trip for our 'average' muskies, and shallow sand beaches and weeds/pads for the better ones we took. Crankbaits were hot for us on the stones, and topwater everywhere. Spinnerbaits caught a bunch of our fish in the weeds, too.

Keith ( My son) took a 45.5, Troy got a personal best "on Purpose" muskie at 45.5, and I got another 45 plus some last evening just before we had to call it a trip. Our group of four boated 34 muskies for the week.

Thanks to Shep and Jason for the trip board map, make sure to look at the photo of the pins in the map where each and every fish was caught!!

I am building a Sabaskong Photo Album tonight for all who attended. Please remember to post your trip pictures there. Look in the Albums section, logoff and log back on as sabaskong bay, using the password sbay, then upload your pictures to the album!

Here is a link to the photo album to shorten the search! http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/photos/photo-thumbnails.asp?a...

What a great trip and great bunch of folks both those from the board and the resort owners, a good time was had by all.

SWEET SWEET REVENGE!!!! Here's the story

My partner Phishin (Steve Hulbert ) came down with a very sore thorat and and feeling very sick and could not fish so I went out by myself I was working the bay directly across from the resort and got hung up on some rocks after clearing by lure from the rocks I checked my hooks and re-sharpened them in the process I had drifted out over deep water looking at my depth finder I see that the bait fish are balled up this is the first time I had seen this to this point on this trip so I cast a silver/white bucktail in the general direction of the ball thinking that a Muskie had balled up some ciscoes on the first cast I get hit and set the hook after a short battle I have a fat 47 incher at the boat but being by myself I lost the fish as I was reaching for the net. At this point I headed back to the resort to see how Steve was feeling on the way I ran into Tom Brown(Schramsky),Coach Bob & Papa Joe they were all fishing out of a small rental boat with no trolling motor I told them of my recent encounter and that I was going in to check on Steve they asked that if Steve was still sick would I take one of them I agreed, Well Steve was sleeping so I did not bother him thinking that some sleep is the best thing for him at this time after a short break I head out looking for the three in the rental boat I meet up with them in them Kings Island area at which time they thanked me for the Bucktail tip it seems that after I had left them earlier one of them got a nice fish on the same color combination, anyway I asked which one will be joining me Tom jumped at the chance after Tom got settled into my boat I headed for the North East corner of Blueberry Island we started fishing a small beach that had some weeds infront of it as we were fishing I explained to Tom that on LOTW the bigger fish use the sand beaches as long as there are weeds available and that the open water is close by preferably directly behind you and the beach and that what would make such a spot even better is if there is rocks or a reef to the sides, with that I told Tom that I knew of such a spot so off we went, I slowed the boat well away from the Beach I wanted to fish and used the trolling motor to ease into the spot again explaining why I feel big fish choose this spot this one I said is particularly good because of the nice sandy beach with submerged weeds in front, reeds off to each side a Rock with Pelicans on it to the right ( I will explain this later ) a submerged reef to the left and deep open water directly behind us I eased the boat within casting range of the beach and we started firing some casts towards the beach on about the third or fourth cast my Chartruse/Black bucktail landed on the beach the blade had just started spinning at the inside edge of the weeds when I see a shadow within seconds the bucktail clears the weeds and the fish comes along side the bucktail Tom just started to say something when I yelled get the net as I am saying that fish forms an "S" shape opens it's jaws and just creams the bucktail as it turns broadside to us I say it's a fifty and the beast makes a bee line for deep water, ( From a distance Steve Worrall was watching thru his field glasses later he said it looked like I made it from the front of the boat to the back in one step ) after a hard but short battle Tom gets the fish into the net I get the hooks out and told Tom to keep the net and fish in the water while I regain my composure ( Actually I think Tom was more nervous than me hoping that he would not mess up the net job which by the way he did perfectly, Thanks Tom )after calming down I held the fish against the boat and measured 51 inches to the base of the tail I could not measure the entire fish as it would not fit into the net completly straight the last few inches of the tail were curled in the net I took a second measurement just to be sure again 51 inches to the base of the tail Tom and I agreed that we would just call it a 50 plus, after some quick pics the beast was released and swam off into deep water, so after 30 years of chasing these things I get my First 50 and a sucsessful release. I will post some pics as soon as I get them

Back to the Pelicans if when you are approaching a rock that has Pelicans on it that is a simple indication that no one has been there recently, if the pelicans are gone you will know that the area has recently been fished, you will know by the stench if Pelicans are using a particular rock or if you see them on the rock

Yessir, they were all dispensed, and several of the pins on the map are there as a result. Thank you, sir!! We had a great time, I suggest you join us next year as an 'Important Marketing Trip' or something.

Wow, what a week! What a great place to stay! What a great group we had out there! Everything went great, 'cept for the fish I was working. I came up there to beat my personal best of 47", and came close several times. I had some really nice fish going, and had my chances, but it was not my week. I blanked!

Saturday evening, I fished a couple spots near the lodge with MarkH. We fished for about 2 hours, and I think, raised one fish. Exhausted from the drive up, and getting our gear stowed, we called it a night. I had brought 2 extra maps, and put them on some tuff board. Jason provided the pins, and the maps were placed in the lodge. Little pins were for fish seen, big pins were for fish caught, and red thumbtacks for 24 hour hands off spots. After the first night, there were several of each placed on the maps. Everybody shared information right off, and by the second night, a pattern seemed to develop. The fish were on rocks, or so it appeared. Small spinnerbaits, top waters, and bucktails were taking fish, although no pigs were "pinned" yet.

I fished with GregM on Sunday for our match against the War Pigs. We raised several nice fish, but none ate our baits. Monday, I fished in the morning for a bit with MarkH, and had a good fish blow up at boatside on a Top Raider. For me, it appearred that was the bait that was going to get me my personal best, and I stuck with it most of the time. Beginning Monday night, I fished with KLY for most of the rest of the week. We fished farther away from the lodge than most, in spots that I had taken nice fish on in previous trips. We raised several fish, KLY scored on a short, and after we stopped at one of my favorite little islands, we saw a fish jump out of the water chasing something. As I casted towards it, it jumped completely out of the water 100' away. KLY said he saw the whole fish, and it was a big one. He casted towards it, and the fish ate! After a good hookset, the fish ran the boat, and it came unpinned. I felt bad for KLY, and he was very quiet for a while. We fished the rest of the island, and he scored on another short. Later, Kly said he knew the fish he missed was the biggest he had ever had a chance on. We rode home in silence, and vowed to do better the next day.

We fish hard all week, and KLY scored a very nice 41, had a nice mid to upper 40 lost at the net, and raised some other very nice fish. We had his friend Matt in the boat one morning, and he scored a 38 on a Top Raider, at that time, his personal best. We fished some new spots, and I had a big fish blow up, and a shrimp came out for one of his many visits. JohnMD lost a very nice fish while alone, and then turned right around and scored the big 51+ with Tom in the boat, as Phishin was down with a bug. After talking with John, we decided to take his advice, and fish some beaches. I had a 45+ come after my Top Raider 5 times Tuesday night, and this fish was seen everday at least once for the duration. She only moved on a Top Raider, and a couple days I moved her 2 times. She just wouldn't eat it! She was on a complex the we named 7 Sluts, as that is how many fished we raised the first time we fished it. KLY missed a good one there, and we saw probably 12 different fishe there all told. Kly did get a 33 on a flat there with his Globe(More on that globe later)

We fished many new spots, returned to spots where we raised nice fish, and tried some beaches. On one of these beaches, I was doing all I could to hold the boat, as KLY worked it with his Rad Dog. A good fish screamed in from the side, and the fight was on. KLY got the fish to the boat, but she wanted no part of the net. I had to return to the trolling motor once to keep the boat off the rocks, and we tried again to get her in the net. Again, she dove down before I even got the net in the water, rolled on her back, the line came over her snout, and with one head shake she was gone! That one hurt.

Thursday night we had a great feast of roasted pig, corn, and baked potatoes. I didn't have the chocolate cake, but the spice cake and sauce was too much! Everything was great, and everyone ate til they were full. I glanced at the maps, and we had a lot of fish caught! I was really happy for everyone, and several firsts, and personal bests were noted!

Friday dawned with the realization that I had one more day to score. I went with Jason for a short while, and he immediately caught a 32" on his white GhostTail. We fished a flat off an island, and I had a mid 30 follow my Top Raider in. At the "L", the fish ate, and I screwed up. Instead of setting back into the fish, I just set the hooks, and after a head shake or two, the fish was gone. Mad at myself, I just casted the bait back out again, and after about 5 more casts, I had a fish crush the bait. I set the hooks hard( I think I was making up for all the fish lost), and the battle was on. The fish rocketed into the air, and the down into the water. And then........... nothing! I was crushed. I reeled in the bait, and it looked to be running really funny. Back at the boat, I notice my leader was bent 90 degrees. Not sure exactly what happened, Jason surmised the fish must have bit down in front of the bait, and got the leader. I never got a hook in her, and the bait showed no teeth marks!

Now, about that Globe. I was back at the dock, and DaveJ was there. He asked about the bait, and decided he wanted to see it in the water. He casted out about 15', and started to reel it in. After about 5 turns, a 36er races out from a rock, and smacked it. He tells Theedz to get the net, and I walked to my cabin completely defeated!

I want everyone to know that, although I blanked on ski's, I had a great time. Sabaskong Bay Lodge is top notch, Grant, Lorette, Morley, and Jeanne are really fine people, and were very gracious hosts. They had to be to put up with a crew the likes of us! We ate in the Lodge the last night, and Jeanne provided a great meal of soup, salad, chicken breast with Tarrigon sauce, green beans, twice baked ptoatoes, and fresh baked apple pie and ice cream. Yummmmmmmyyyyyy! Thanks to Troy for some boat company while fishing up some eyes, and cooking them up as only he can do! Thanks to Jason Smith for helping organze the outing, Greg, KLY, Matt, and MarkH for sharing boat time. Thanks to Gene Daul, and Teck for sharing your boats with Mikie and Mouser, JohnMD for some good info, Steve Hulbert for hanging in their through that nasty bug. Congrats to Keith and Ryan, Mikes and JasonV, PapaJoe, Tom, and Coach Bob on some nice fish. And you, too DaveJ and Theedz. It was a fun ride up and back with the radios! "Brakes are overrated" hehehehe

Thanks to Steve Worrall for providing the forum to set up this most succesaful outing. We got a great group of people here, and I am darn happy to be part of this. It was a great time, and I look forward to the next. Also, thanks to those who didn't get to go, and provided good thoughts and good luck wishes to us. It helped alot, I'm sure.

For anyone thinking of going up to LOTW, I highly, highly recommend Sabaskong Bay Lodge. The lodge is located right in the heart of some of the best Muskie fishing on LOTW, and the accomodations are outstanding, as are the owners. I can't wait to go back!

From Mikie;

Hey, Ranger. Gene Daul got a 40 on one of your clear leaders using an itty-bitty Mepps spinner. It was a real thrill to net it for him, which we did promptly before the hooks gave way.

I got 4 muskies last week, three in one day with Gene which is a personal best (shoot, three muskies in a year is better than my best!), including my first figure 8 fish. Anyway, I'm worn out after a 14 hr. day and a 9 hr. day drive on the road home. Best part of the trip home was hearing Mauser tell his wife over the phone that he's "got it out of his system for a while." Yeah, right! CJ had an awesome week, what a fine fisherman W.Va. has produced. More later, gotta run, more wash to do. m

I was sleepin, srry dude, but we were out from 5:30 until 2:30 that day with the most incredible topwater action we have ever had.

Dying to hear of the total number of fish caught, but as of thurs nite ( I left fri at noon, a day early) there were 120 ish.

I won't steal anyones thunder (a.k.a JohnMD), but a PIG was caught and I know of 2-48's,2-45's and some lower 40's.

LOTS of numbers, mostly on topraiders and rad dog/violent strike types and bucktails.

I persoanlly boated 8 (7 topraider/ 1 ToddM tail), best ever in all 6 trips to the woods. My biggest was only 36" and never really encountered anything bigger than 42 (guessing). Couldn't get a tanker to show herself, unlike July.

It was a blast, had a lot of laughs in the boat with Kly's little crossover dude.

Amazing how close and accurate you had to cast in the smallest of crevices or right next to a rock to get a blow-up.

New moon and the crappy (Awesome musky) weather all week gave us tons of action. 14 topwater blowups alone for PapaJoe and myself in 4 hours one evening.....10 more the folowing morning in the same spots. 3 fish in 6 casts in 15 minutes for Matt and I right before dark another evening, all on topwater.

Was my second time at Sab Bay Lodge, again great hosts and accomodations in a great area!!

I wasn't with the MuskieFIRST group but was fishing out of Morson during the same time for 3 1/2 days. After Wed, we had boated 11 with the biggest being a 52" beast which was a personal best for my partner, Jordan Dahl. (Pictures are coming). Next biggest was 47" caught by Dusty Carlson who also lost a 50"+ fish on a rod breaking hookset. After the rod snapped, the fish took advantage of the slack line and shook his bait.

Early in the week we had a decent bucktail bite but as the week went on we had to back off the structure a bit and go big and slow with believers and bulldawgs. Could not get much to look at topwater all week which is very unusual for LOTW.

Was supposed to meet up with GregM Tues. afternoon to find out how the MuskieFirst crew was doing but he was a no show. Where were ya Greg?

I'll second what Greg M. said. Wife and I left early Friday morning sounds like they caught a few more on Friday as well.

It was a great time with a great bunch of people, Debbie and I really enjoyed ourselves. There will be some good fish stories to come for sure...some guys including Mike and Mouser had some good action, it was great to see those guys get into some good fish. JohnMD will post for sure as will others.

A wide variety of situations.... real tight to cover, most fish on rocks, some from the weeds including a fatty that Mr. Bluegill got, and a few off of the sand beaches.

I will put in a recommendation for Sabaskong Bay Lodge for anyone looking for a place to stay. Grant, Morley, and their wives are wonderful hosts and helpful with every request.

Stay tuned for more from the rest of the crew, I'm sure they'll check in as they get back home.

Safe travels everyone.

Please let me add:
1. A BIG thank you to MuskieFirst for sponsoring the trip of a lifetime. Well done, gentlemen!
2. A special thanks to whomever donated the Mepps spinners. Although I'd loaded up on Mepps before I left, the one that was gifted me at the outing caught all four of my fish and several of other species. Perfect weight/size where the Giant Killers and Magnum I bought were a bit too big for the shallow water ("I'm hung, I'm hung!")
3. Thanks to Gene, Papa Joe, and Teck for having me in their boats. My learning process continues thanks to their patient instructions and, especially in Gene's case, I learned lots about proper boat placement and map reading. Thanks so much.
4. To Mauser a special thanks for putting up with me for 12 days. Long days' drives were much more pleasant with his company.
5. To the Lodge folks, you have a wonderful place and the hospitality was outstanding.
6. To the attendees, thanks for making this trip so memorable.
7. And, to the fish, I really appreciate the cooperation! m

WOW!!!!!!!! What more can I say!!! Got to the island on Saturday afternoon about 2:00 or so and just couldn't stand it, grabbed my rod and a 9" Sledge, walked about 75yds of shoreland before I caught a nice fat 34"er while Mikie was still unpacking. Fished on around the island and caught a nice 30' + pike and then 3 cast later nailed another 34' musky. All this and I hadn't been on the island 1 hour yet!!! Man it don't get any better than this!! Teck put me on my personal best Sunday with a fat 45"er, I'm telling you that the Sledge was wearing 'em out with 4 muskys caught out of the 9 that I boated. A couple of nice 35- 36" pike , several blown fish{ watch your lure Mauser, not the Eagles sitting in the tree} a smallmouth that thought it was the baddest fish in the lake{hit a Mepps tandem and hit it HARD} and some of the best people that you'd ever want to meet. This trip had it all!! Hell , I'm still packed, lets go back next week!!

My thanks to all that made this trip possable:
To Steve, Jason, Shep, and Mark:
Thanks for putting this trip together, looking forward to see you again at Cave Run in the spring.
To Grant and his crew: thanks for the trip of a lifetime, my hat's off to ya!
To Pappa Joe, Steve H, Mikie, Matt, John, Gene, Teck and the rest of Musky 1ST:
Thanks for putting up with a old hillbilly and making him feel at home, you guys are 1ST Class in my book.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Cave Run this spring

Damn , what a good time I had!!

Subject: RE: Sabaskong Bay MuskieFIRST Outing Reports!

I know this wasn’t a bluegill trip, but I thought it would be a good time to go and spend some time with a great bunch of people and maybe learn a few things about musky fishing. I like to stay versatile...but not for long periods of time.

I was pretty bored with musky fishing after Monday already. I had lost a really big fish and caught a 34.5" pike along with a smaller musky. The action was there but not the right type to get my blood pumping as much as I thought it would. (you musky fisherman are crazy!)

I was fortunate enough to be able to spend some time out in the boat with Shep trolling and jigging for some REAL fish. Our dinner plans depended on having fish a few nights. The fish were not coming easy. Walleyes, perch, pike, perch, and crappies were few and far between. Shep and I decided to spend some time on a reef close to the camp. It wasn’t 2 minutes and I landed a 14" eye. We both thought this was going to be easy...HA! I jigged one more 18" off that reef a half hour later and that was it. We then switched to trolling mode. Most of those fish have probably never seen a crankbait go by their nose. Again, 2 minutes of trolling and I whack an 18". We figured we had them pegged now. NOPE! Shep reeled in a nice 20" fish and that was it. I continued to try fishing for these things the rest of the week and only came up with 9 eyes and 2 small saugers.
The perch were everywhere but seemed to be on the small side. I didn’t catch a crappie until Friday when Jackley, Theedz and I stumbled upon some eater fish jigging between 2 islands. We managed a couple of crappies, some perch and a few walleyes. We ate real good on Friday night!

Back to musky fishing.........Top water and the 8 were my 2 goals that week. After that I could care less. Well, 1 of the 2 was accomplished. It is a serious rush when that wake starts following the bait and then explodes at any given second. I seen quite a few fish follow my baits as well as witnessing many follows and hits on others. I will say that was pretty intense! I did get the chance to miss a few fish on the 8 but never managed to get one to strike; probably because of the inexperience of knowing how to figure 8 properly and when to do so.

The one evening that will never be forgotten can be related to a father/son lifetime experience. I never had the opportunity to go on any fishing trips with my father growing up. I have cherished the past few years meeting all the new people that have accompanied me on the water. People like Dick Stille, Steve Vogts, and Steve Worral have all made huge impressions on my life. I look upon each one of these guys as a father like figure. They have all treated me more like a son than a friend. Each and every chance I get, I take the opportunity to fish with these guys; not only for the companionship but to soak in a little knowledge that these guys give up.

The evening was cool and drizzly. A huge front was passing through as the sky above showed it profusely. Steve had previously moved a few nice fish in a large, shallow, weedy bay. With the conditions being right we sought after these fish with topwater baits. Steve was throwing a tallywacker, (I believe), and I had a well worn topper stopper connected to the steel leader on the end of some type of heavy super line which kind of resembled line I use for tip-ups. We were working the bay one cast after the other going clockwise from the north to the south. About half way into the pass Steve has a colossal fish follow him to the side of the boat at the last second of the retrieve. Just as he seen the fish, he pressed the trolling motor creating a powerful thrust of water right towards the fishes head. GOODBYE! No way was that fish sticking around. We continued working around the bay while Steve cussed and blabbered about the missed opportunity. I had a big chuckle on my face knowing that if it was a bluegill, I would just cast back and hit him again, no big deal. Well Steve decided to go about it that way as well. We headed back to where we had raised the fish. Steve started throwing different types of baits while I continued using the same topper stopper that remained on my rod for the majority of the week. The weeds kept clinging to the bucktails so he decided to go back to the topwater. I had accidentally casted over the top of his line while trying to fight the strong winds that had lurked all week. I let my bait sit until it was all clear to start reeling once Steve’s bait had passed. Just as I started reeling, a big swirl arose behind Steve’s bait. The fish had missed. But….I was right behind Steve’s bait. Sure enough, the fish’s head turned and locked on to me like a heat sinking missile. A curl of the body and before I knew it, the water exploded. I gave the rod a huge pull back and heard Steve say “HIT HER AGAIN, HARD!!!!” I did just that. I crossed her eyes just like that of a huge walleye. There was no way that fish was coming off that bait now. She thrashed a little and went clear around the boat once until the big Frabill scooped her up and kept her safe.
A slight tear in my eye and a huge hug from Steve came just after we both looked at each other with the utmost look of excitement a person could ever have. Steve was shaking so bad I was worried that my pictures would not turn out due to unstableness. I lifted the hefty fish out of the Frabill with no harm done to the beautiful creature. Steve held the stick up to her to get a quick measurement of 45.5”. We took a couple of pictures, and videoed the release just as the rain started to fall from the eerie looking sky. In just a few short minutes, a lifetime memory was created. The adrenalin was pumping through our bodies like a rush of a waterfall. Steve had fished with his son for most of the week and treasured every moment of the time they spent together. For that short evening of fishing, I had one of those experiences that a Father dreams of spending with his son. Not to take anything away from Kieth, (Steve’s son), but I will truly embrace that moment for the rest of my life and hope that someday I can get the chance to do something like this with my dad just like Kieth and Steve had done so many times.

The trip was a success for all the MuskieFirst.com “hunters”. Everybody enjoyed themselves and no one had any complaints. I enjoyed cooking for our cabin and would do it all over in a heartbeat. I had the opportunity to meet some great people, which will develop into some great friendships down the road. Thanks to Theedz and Jackley for the 2 days of pure comedy in a boat. “Jerry says DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT”……….

For those of us that wonder sometimes why we fish, this is why. It is not about catching lots of fish or competing amongst ourselves for the biggest fish and bragging rights. It is all about what comes out of every trip and what can be shared with friends and family so they too can have something to remember us all by and be able to pass it down for generations to come.

We are the lucky ones. Please share your fortunes with others that haven’t experienced the magnificent sport of fishing. It will create more than what you could ever imagine.

Mr. Bluegill

All I can say is that I had the time of my life. This was my best fishing trip ever! I am definitely going back next year. Thanks to everyone involved in putting this trip together.

Here are some of the pics of the week including a 48” fish JV nailed on a white Violent Strike spinner bait.

First of all congradulations to all on having a great trip. I knew it was going to happened. I spent two year's in a row a week's vacation in August just down the water at Hanson's Kings Island fishing that area and did real good. As alot of guys found out you don't have to travel very far to get into some real good muskies (like right next to your resort). I tried my hardest to be able to go even telling my sister I would pay for my brother-inlaws way, if she would watch my dad for the week, well maybe next year. Once again congradulations on a very successfull trip!!!!! God bless, Al

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was 149 fish caught from Sunday--Friday. That comes out to be an average of just over 1 fish per person, per day. That's pretty darn good.

As everyone probably knows, JohnMD and I had the hot boat for BIG FISH. John and I put the two biggest fish in the boat for the week. John caught a monster. I'll let him post the pics of his fish....I don't want to steal his glory.

Mauser had the hot stick....with probably 10 muskies landed....including 4 muskies and 2 nice northerns that caught off the bank from the island we were staying on. Very cool.

But here is a pic of my fish. My personal best. It came on a CRACK POT right against the rocks. There was a storm rollin' in and I was really sick, but I forced myself to put an hour or two in before it started to storm and it payed off.

Hi,
I wanted to make sure to shout out a big thank you to muskiefirst, mr. worrall, mr. shep, and everyone that attended this outing. I had an unbelievable time and would highly recommend sabaskong bay lodge to anyone. As mr. shep stated Grant, Lorette, Morley, and Jeanne are top notch and great people. The fishing was excellent and I got to see everything I wanted and more. Shep put me on some great fish, including what I truly believe to be my first encounter with a 50", actually had her hooked for a few seconds and got to feel a few head shakes. I also lost some really nice in the mid 40" range and boated a few nice ones as well.
thanks again and when can I go back?
later

Kyle,

You got a seat in my boat anytime! Always a fun day on the water with you. Wish we coulda got that big one in, along with a few more, but that's fishin. I think I found a tray of some of your baits buried in my boat. We got an appointment with a certain sucker murderer this fall!

You don't have to call me Mr., Mr. The whole world calls me Shep!

Enjoyed the first few posts here but quit reading due to fatigue from trying to scroll back and forth. Why can this thread not be contained on the screen like the other threads on the board? Can that be changed so it is easier to read?

FSF, Are you viewning the threads in flat mode? Look to the top of the screen and change your setting to flat, that should help.

Wow! What a week.

I only boated 4 myself but did get my personal best of 43" (on a topwater and figure 8). The other 3 were mid 30's. Fished with DaveJ the entire week and had one day my stomach hurt from laughing so hard. Couldn't ask for a better boat partner. The accomodations were great as were the other people in our cabin. Steve, Keith and friend and Mr. Bluegill along with those in the attached cabin Jason/Connie, Shep/Beth and Eric. Had a great time with good friends and everyone came home safe.

The only bad part of the entire week was losing what DaveJ called a legit 30 pounder on day one. Tried for her the rest of the week but she decided not to tease me again. I was busy dodging flying hooks when she rolled on the surface so I never got a good look.

Again thanks to all the organizers and to the hosts at Sabaskong Bay Lodge.

My home computer is currently dead so I am unable to scan and post pics. Will get them in as soon as we are up and running.

Large pins are for caught fish. The smaller pins, the ones you can hardly see, are follows.

If you can make the outing this year, I'd highly reccomend it. I won't be able to make it this year.
Great bunch of guys, great accomodations and the fishing was awesome last year.
