Posts: 1939 Location: Black Creek, WI | HEEEEELLLLPPPPP!!!!!! I will be up north this weekend with the family, then only have a few days before leaving for a big fishing trip. Unfortunately, the rod tip eyelet broke loose on my favorite 7'6" Avid. I know St. Croix would fix it for me, but I simply don't have time to ship it there and get it back in time for my long awaited trip. So.... I'm going to try and fix it myself. Looking for ANY tips on how to properly remove and fix the top eye. For starters.... what kind of glue should I buy????? Thanks.

Then use some hot glue, the sticks from a hot glue gun. Heat the glue up with the same said lighter and smear the glue on the tip of the rod. Then slide the new tip on. Make sure it's straight. Then let it cool, and pull off the excess glue that sticks out of the bottom. It will take you approx 1.32 minutes start to finish. Good Lungen, Joel

The glue comes in a small plastic tube, handy for on the water repairs.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Flex Coat tip top hot melt glue stick. You can use a regular hot melt stick, it's not nearly as strong as Flex but will work. Get the glue stick hot with a lighter and rub it on the rod tip. Do the same with the tip top and put em together. You may have to apply a little more heat. Peel off excess. If you mess up no big deal, do it over. Never use epoxy. I keep mine on the boat along with assorted tops....

Posts: 1939 Location: Black Creek, WI | Just repaired my rod tip... using EPOXY. Then I read Raze1's comment NOT to use epoxy. Any reason for this? I plan to fish with the rod this weekend to make sure it will hold for my big trip. Any predictions whether it will work? If not.... looks like I'll be buyin' some hot melt glue!

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | J, only the fact that it will be more difficult to remove...no biggie though..... Most rods are hot melt from the factory for the simple fact that sooner or later it will break. I'm sure the right amount of heat will release the epoxied tip. I'm sure the epoxy will hold just fine..... Edited by RAZE1 8/28/2003 10:07 PM
