| Just curious as to how many of you folks add split rings to the bait/leader marriage? I have added a split ring to basically every crank bait I own. Meaning when I attach a bait to my leader, it is hooked up to a split ring that is on the 'normal'/nose connection on the lure. I'm not sure why I started doing this, but it's as automatic to me as sharpening hooks on a new bait, and I've been doing it for a long time. |

| I do this to dawgs, seems like I get more of a swing or glide when ripping with a slack line. Also on lures with smaller eyelets, which includes a number of cranks. I've been hearing more and more stories of snaps from leaders failing on guys. I'm reconsidering switching to an all split wring - no snap - connection on all baits do to those anecdotes. Probably ditch the split wrings already on the baits at that point. |

| I add spilt rings to almost all of my cranks...feel it frees them up a lil to give more action side to side and easier to exchange out IMO..so I add rings to almost all of my baits with a few exceptions |

Also, add a closed ring to the end of your leader and attach the split ring from your bait to it (assuming you have split rings on all your baits) and you'll never have to worry about a snap failure. I like Brad Nelson's 180 LB. leaders rigged that way for cranks, blades, etc. and with a Spro swivel on the other end. That type of swivel can come through weeds without getting anything hung up on them. |

| I use only split rings (old Bucher #7s), too, but IMO it's a huge mistake to connect two split rings directly together.

The split ring is connected to a SOLID RING (not another split ring) at the end of the leader. |

I do the same as you: leader : solid ring : split ring : lure. I keep the split ring on the leader, and change it at the first sign of it being the least bit sprung.
