Location: Northern Illinois | Hi all, I have recently installed a new shoot thru hull transducer on my ranger 681vs for 2d sonar. I'm getting these weird green lines throughout the picture as seen in the photos below what is that and how do i get rid of it? Posts: 1209 | Is the helix new out of the box? Or is it used? I would personally select "restore defaults" anyway. Doing so should return everything to new as well as new uses "clear mode" and 83khz I personally would used dual beam and clear mode Maybe back the sensitivity down to 9 out of 20. Also to me it kinda looks like thermocline since you water is 80* Edited by Fishysam 7/9/2017 9:40 PM

Posts: 1209 | Pictures 1 and 2 look like fish and bait above the "thermocline" the lines are fish or large bait moving the same speed as you in the same direction.

Location: Northern Illinois | Yes the unit is brand new out of the box. The unit has 2 transducers installed. 1st is the SI puck out the back of the transom the goes to splitter cable to a 2D puck thru hull transducer. I just want to be sure its not interference or that the shoot thru hull puck isn't installed right... I will reset unit to default next time i'm out. I tried adjusting the clear mode and sensitivity with not much change.. Could be the lake i'll take it out to a different lake and see if I get the same thing..

Posts: 1209 | I is not interferance I know that would look like vertical lines with a rythum or pattern.

Location: Northern Illinois | What would a a shoot thru hull transducer look like if it wasn't installed properly?

Posts: 1209 | Top to bottom bs, but it would be hard to do it that bad, I guess surface clearity could remove some of it, why do you think it may be installed wrong?

Location: Northern Illinois | Just wondering if it wasn't pushed all the way down into the epoxy and has possible air bubble between the transducer and the hull? I don't know at this point just trying to find a solution. I'm not sure if its a setting issue or a hardware issue.

Posts: 866 Location: NE Ohio | muskyhunter07 - 7/10/2017 5:28 PM What would a a shoot thru hull transducer look like if it wasn't installed properly? i hear that you can get air bubbles trapped in the epoxy between the ducer and hull. and that screws it up. about the problem............try adjusting the surface clutter setting in the advanced menu on sonar.

Location: Northern Illinois | I will look at the surface clutter setting thanks. Any idea what air bubbles in the epoxy would look like on the graph? or would it just not read at all?

Posts: 443 Location: Duluth, MN | Does your other transducer also do sonar or just SI? What happens when you switch to it?

Location: Northern Illinois | My main transducer is mega chirp does both 2d, si and di. I was told to purchase just a 2d shoot thru hull transducer for high speed readings so I did. I was also told that the unit will use the shoot thru hull for 2d automatically with the splitter cord from Humminbird. I haven't tried just the main transducer by itself. I guess if I isolate each one by unplugging the transducer it will tell me if one or the other is bad.

Posts: 1209 | Yes that is perfect, undo the splitter and run directly to the helix. If nothing changes then no issue if it does change I would retry the splitter. If it's good your good if not put a small a out of dialectic grease In The splitter connections. Also you do not want a bundle of transducer cords with the extra, you want to have a 8 so that signal doesn't jump though the insulation because it's traveling parallel. It is not possible to jump enough information if it is going the opposite ways.

Location: Northern Illinois | Yes I will do as stated and see what happens. So you mean don't loop the extra transducer cords in a circle and zip tie? Put them in and 8 pattern?

Posts: 1209 | Yes a circle is asking for some cross talk, but if u make them into an 8 so the signal is always head on to the next return that is supposed to help. Not going to lie both my si and us2 cables are in a circle but another forum has a lot to say about this.

Change Switchfire from max mode to clear mode??? out of the box mine defaulted to max mode and it was a mess, changing to clear mode made a huge difference. Edited by The Nate 7/12/2017 2:41 PM

Posts: 1209 | http://www.bbcboards.net/forum.php No please do not forget about us here at Muskie first for these people all want to go 90 mph and catch bait in the forum of green bass. About 15-20 categories down is the humminbird sonar forum use that one not the humminbird image interpretation page.

Location: Northern Illinois | Awesome thanks. I will post my pictures there and see if I can get some more input... Kind of scared of these bass guys though..

Posts: 146 Location: Shawano, Wi | that sr is the thermocline to get rid of it put it on the clear mode not max and switch what frequency your using that should take care of it.

Location: Northern Illinois | It is on clear mode Not max. And I'm running 83/200 frequency for 2d sonar.

Posts: 546 Location: MN | Any update on what happened when you isolated the transducers by plugging them in directly and separately to the unit? What 2D sonar settings are you running for Sensitivity, Contrast, chart speed, etc?

Location: Northern Illinois | I haven't done that yet lakes are closed around here do to flooding. I will post back what I find and also what settings I have on it.
