| Hello folks,
I finally decided to try a new lake in the Kawartha system. It was Pigeon.
I wish I could leave as early as Friday morning but I faced two problems: where to get some gas for the trip, in view of the Major N. American power outage, as well as cope with a possible thunder on a new lake, looking at 5-Day weather forecast. Eventually I decided to venture out on Saturday.
The morning was overcast with light W breeze. The overcast skies did not last long though, till about 9:00am or so. Shortly before I managed my first 35" baby of Pigeon Lake. I was casting weed-line in the Narrows with my (walleye pattern) Sledge. Isn't there a study that if a fish is hooked on a first treble - it is a sign of the fish being aggressive? Well, that's how the fish got hooked - on the first treble.
I was concentrating on fishing the deep Northern section of the Lake. Casting Sledge/Suick/Bucktail to, away or along the deep shoreline, produced no strikes. My lures must have run too shallow, I thought. No musky was interested to leave their comfort zone to chase lures in the upper 79Fo layer. I went down with my Aqua Vu camera and it revealed that at abt 15' the temp was around 70Fo, at 25' and 35' - 69Fo and 68Fo respectively.
Well, I finally turned to jigging. I was fighting light NE wind with my electrical motor, moving over a deep reef, occasionally bumping the bottom to make sure I was not too far from it when ,... at around 6:30pm, I felt a slight bump on my 80lb test Spiderwire braid line and my Shimano musky rod bent down. I pulled and the fight began. It took me awhile to bring the fish up from the 25' deep, she made all the efforts to stay deep. Neither was I sure if I had a musky on. It felt so, ...er, different. Yep, there she was, a sweet 37" clear musky of Pigeon. After I let her go I took another picture of my "secret weapon" . Yummy, isn't it?(grin)
I was overwhelmed with joy. It was my first ever musky caught while actually jigging for musky. This is how exactly you open gates of 'confidence' to a new lure/presentation. I have not figured out how to post pictures in here, so please read full report with photos at:

| Dude, Musky Striker, that's a cool report man. I also liked the pic of your jig on your website. I'm not much a jigger, but maybe i'd give it shot sometime, if i had to..i'll do anything to put a fish in the boat.
I've always wanted to fish the Kawarthas area...but trips to trophy waters seem to take up my vacation days.
Cool report, cool jig.
